Thanks for the good wishes everybody. For clarity, though, it was the only decision rather than a big decision; effectively, I’ve been slowly dying a little more with every passing day and the IBD team and associated surgeons regard it as emergency surgery at this stage, with no choice involved.

More as and when, but positive thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Edit: just seen my surgeon - scheduled for 8.30am tomorrow. It’ll be an ileostomy - hardly the outcome I’d have chosen a year ago, but there you go.
    Fingers crossed mate

I've been following this thread with interest (I have my own, as yet unresolved, bowel issues, so can empathise to some degree).
I wish you all the best for successful surgery and a speedy recovery. I hope you then regain a decent quality of life as it sounds like you've been through hell.

Not the outcome you would have wanted but in the circumstances possibly for the best. Best wishes for a good recovery and improved long term health.

I can only think that, despite the major nature of the surgery, in time you will feel so much better. All good wishes Tony

Based on the lady I mentioned, the lack of choice is I feel a good position for you. Quality of life once adjusted will be transformed for you I’m sure.

Dying a bit each day is no way to live and I really look forward to your posting of how different life is now & how much you are loving getting out on that bike.

If she can be sat on a unicorn inflatable in a pool in Ibiza or Marbella proudly showing her stoma, am expecting similar from you! Or perhaps wi accept a photo of the bike somewhere you currently don’t feel capable of riding to.

Now you know what’s happening, it’s time to plan your prioritised list of things you want to see or do; it won’t be immediate but you’re going to feel like you have a second go at things.

    All the best.

    Ulcerative colitis

Only just caught up with this thread and my heart goes out to you and I wish you all the very best.

I too am a Crohn's/UC sufferer, having been receiving infusions of Inflixinab for 5 years and 4 years of Vedolizumab self administered injections. Fortunately I have been in remission for 4 years or so.

Best wishes Tony and hoping you start to benefit quickly from the change. You'll be back on your motorcycle and at the footie sooner than you probably imagine.

Two emergencies this morning, so I’ve now been cancelled for today. Possibly tomorrow now, more likely Thursday.

So frustrating. My last meal was 6 pm yesterday (I’ve just received a late lunch though) and I’ve been in a state of anxiety all day.

That’s a shame, and I bet you’re exhausted with having been on edge waiting all day. Fingers crossed your next trip isn’t just waiting.

I am, but I’m in hospital now until the procedure is carried out and I’m through recovery. The problem I have is that I’m in the same condition that I was in (that is, physically deteriorating) until operated upon.

Have only just seen this post.

Sorry to hear that you have been through this, Tony.

It sounds a truly awful thing to have to go through.

At least your quality of life should improve dramatically after the procedure has been carried out.

Wishing you all the best for the upcoming op

Best wishes Tony for the surgery and recovery.

You may struggle to believe this now in your current condition, but I promise you will soon be back doing all the things you enjoyed before you were ill.

Just a very quick update, but the operation appears to have gone well, I’m out of recovery and i’m currently reasonably comfortable on the surgical ward. I’m not going to post now until things have settled a little bit but thank you all for the very kind wishes. I’m very grateful indeed for the wonderful support.

    Thanks as always, everybody.

I’ve spoken to the registrar who supported my consultant during the op, and everything went according to plan. 100% keyhole, with just a small incision made to remove the colon.

Just had a bed bath and currently sitting in the chair, feeling a little bit uncomfortable (and also a bit woozy). Starving but will eat soon, as bag working at it should.
