Great to have the update that it all went perfectly. Hope you rest up well & are back to being yourself again.

Big change, but must have brought big relief to you and your loved ones now.

    Take care of yourself Tony.

    Wish you a speedy recovery,Tony
Assume a panproctocolectomy with an ileostomy.
BTW, you will need to clear your inbox when you get a chance but you have more important things to do like getting back on your feet and getting home.
    All the best.

No, there wasn’t nor will there be - I’ve actually been left with a small stump from my colon that will wither over time, but my rectum is fully intact and will remain so. (Too much detail for most, but important to correct.)

Glad you've not been turned into a monotreme as we'd have to start calling you Platipus!

Really good to hear that it all went well. Hopefully you'll be back on your feet and back to normal soon

In today's world I'm probably not allowed to suggest that's a positive for everyone but it's definitely an ambition of mine now you've mentioned it .

Take it easy T. I'm sure you'll be up & about soon enough.

Just spoke to my surgeon. He said I probably had about two weeks left at the time that they operated.

    I knew I was dying.

Good job you had the surgery then, would hate for you to miss out on Arsenal beating Spurs at your stadium

Jeez, It’s hard to realise that you deteriorated so rapidly, I would have expected the condition to have gradually taken years to get to that point. Great news

    Would love to.

I’m actually sitting here in tears having listened to a conversation another patient was having with his consultant. The things people go through.

Essentially, I was eating but my body was diverting every molecule of nutrients into fighting the inflammation in my colon. At the same time, my colon was pouring toxins into the rest of my body.

I was fast approaching the point of shut down.

I recall hearing a very similar type of conversation when I was looking after my wife in hospital. Really breaks you, doesn’t it. Never fully recovered from it tbh, and welled up typing.

    Hope you’re recovering well.

    from nhs web site: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/bowel-cancer-screening/
"The programme is expanding to make it available to everyone aged 50 to 59 years. This is happening gradually over 4 years and started in April 2021."

Has this worked its way back to 51 year olds yet?

It is not clear from the information i can find

    thanks

When you put it like that Tony it just sounds both awful and frightening in equal measure. Sounds like you are on the right path in the right place = best wishes and speedy recovery.

If you phone 'Bowel Cancer Screening' on 0800 707 60 60 they should be able to advise but they'll likely ask for your NHS No., name and D.O.B.

Quick look from your area in profile:

    https://mft.nhs.uk/mri/services/bowe...ing-programme/

Bowel screening is offered to people aged 54 to 74 years-old across South and Central Manchester, Tameside, Stockport and Trafford to help find bowel cancer early, when it can often be cured.

    Recent article

    https://www.manchestereveningnews.co...g-kit-26577072

But if you have specific concerns go to GP as don't need to wait for screening to have the test.

Just got home, and very happy to be here. Mightily uncomfortable, though, the consequence of about 15 staples in my tummy

Great to hear you're home Tony. Rest up, try not to rush to get back to 100%. After I had my surgery I had to learn to be a patient, patient.

Glad all went well and you’re home. Best wishes with the recovery, and hope the adjustment goes as smoothly, but by the sounds of it you’ll be feeling considerably better already.

Look on the bright side. At least you don’t need to squeeze out a shyte with constipation caused by painkillers. I tried that after an open hernia surgery.

Sorry for the dark and lousy humour, in all seriousness I wish you a speedy recovery. By the sound of it you had it bad and this is in effect a new lease on life. I hope you can enjoy it as such.

Nice one Tony, I’m glad you’re home safely, it must be a relief leaving that part in the rear view mirror.

I’m still in hospital for the moment (7 days to date), although it’s not me that’s ill.

I haven't read the details (I'm somewhat squeamish about medical stuff, so I'm not going to!), but I'm glad to hear you're on the mend, Tony.
