Gas usage does this seem right?

I hve just done a gas meter reading and it looks like I have used 750 units in 3 months. A colleagues has used about 170 units in the same time.
I have a detached house and he has a semi we both have 11 rads and have the heating on at similar times, there are 5 in his house and only 2 in my house so we use less hot water.

I have gone from being in credit by £1000 to a debit of £300

This seems a big difference between us?

I could be wrong but that seems very low (750 units) so 750 kWh?
Last month I used 270kw and my heatings very rarely on( like an couple of hours a day)
I live alone in a. 2 bed terraced with one shower a day
    I think he’s mistaken- I’d say he’s used at least 1700
In my very poor maths surly your gas consumption is around £100
    90 x 26p standing charge
    750 x 10p per kWh.

I've seen his bills and he is correct.
The units I've use is the difference between the last reading 25052 and the previous 1 24302

Maybe it’s because his wife is hot if he has a semi?

So he’s using under 2kwh per day- as an example a bath will use approx 4 - is he actually living in the house ?
Maybe the family share a bath once a week
    Just do the math

We're in a (large-ish) 3.5 bed Victorian end terrace - so not particularly insulated apart from double glazing - and used about 170 units of gas in 3 months (away for 2 weeks of that). Combi boiler, CH at 19C. Only our son has baths, we use shower.

Yes we gain from having one party wall, but what kind of CH temps and how many baths are people having to run up 250 units a month of gas? Our friends in 6 bed Edwardian place here in Edinburgh have bills like that but you'd kind of expect it with 4m ceilings etc

Need to compare off kWh usage not meter reading unit. Iirc some meters are cubic meters and some are cubic feet.

For comparison our gas usage at this time of year is c.80-100 kWh a day

Am I correct in saying (as per Google) 1 unit of gas is equivalent to 1 kWh?
This is my Jan consumption I think it’s very low and I’m currently on a payment holiday as it’s so low

Forget what your colleague does and does not do. He is probably sitting in his onesie all day and feeding you a bag of sh1te as he does not want to sound like a tight arse.

Read your meter and ensure your bill is following your meter readings. Follow the simple maths as illustrated on your bill.

Coming to a forum saying my bill is larger than my colleagues is none-sense.

You will have a basic standard of education, so I suggest you put a bit of effort in and use it.

I will happily spoon feed you if you provide the facts. Starting meter read. Final meter read. Price per unit or per kWh. This assumes your unit is equal to 1 ft3 of gas.

170 pq Elec usage seems too low; I'm pretty frugal and use 425kWh pq. [I'll win on Gas though, only 50 units pa.]

Edited as I got the context wrong.

The gas meter measures in cubic metres, the bill is in kWh. There is a conversion formula but it depends on things like the average calorific value of the gas being supplied.

For comparison, our average electric usage is about 700kwh per month (including charging for 2 EVs) and our gas usage is about 31,000 kWh per annum which obviously varies hugely with the seasons. That’s in a 5 bed detached Victorian house, 18 radiators. Thankfully we are still in a fixed rate for gas from 2021, otherwise we would have been paying the best part of £1,000/month for gas and electric over the winter
