    OMEGA CO AX REPAIR

    Heya Chaps,

So my PP1200 decided to have a episode and the jump hour has stopped working and caused something to happen to the movement. - i've ran the power down by popping the crown, stopping the hands, so it's off to someone.

Now having not been round a while - i'm still assuming that OMEGA boutiques use STS still? And STS are still beyond useless, the other option they'll provide is send to Swatch in Southampton, who are equally bad still?

Any other options - I recall someone in London able to look at CO AX movements, i'm assuming now they've been around a while, it's no longer back to Omega only?

Any advice or pointers would be appreciated!

I've had excellent service from sending to Southampton directly. If you call them, they will send you out a travel case for you to package the watch to them.

Mine was a warranty return, so it was serviced and sorted within two weeks. There would be a longer wait for out of warranty work I believe.

I hate going through the boutique as you end up with a middleman that adds nothing to the process other than getting in the way if you want to find anything out. Dealing direct with the service centre is much better.

Duncan at Genesis Watchmaking does good work at a reasonable price.

Omega direct are currently running at around 6 months turn around. Early Sept drop off with a current March expected completion for one of mine.

Consider trying Antique and Modern in East Barnet Village ... accredited Omega servicing agency

The fault the OP refers to has nothing to do with the co-axial escapement, so anyone with an older 2500 series needn't worry! The 8500 and similar feature a quickset hr hand that also acts as a quickset date, some ETA/Omega quartz movements had a similar design, and they can go faulty.

Any Omega accredited repairer should be able to service it......at a price. Duncan Potter (Genesis) would be my suggestion, or send it to Omega Service Centre. Cost will probably be the wrong side of £500........that's the cost of ownership thesedays with modern Omegas.

Speak to Tim at ALSALWatches, 226 Strand.

All of my problematic watches have been sorted here for many years.

That’s pretty long! I often get quoted 6 months turnaround but usually get it back within 2-3

I can confirm this having sent my Seamaster off for service last month. ETA was quoted for end of June.

They do excellent work so I’ve resigned myself to a long wait!

One of the potential issues with using a non accredited independent is parts supply. Omega do not supply them, if a part is needed the OP will need to pay for the independents time and then pay again for the Omega specialist. It’s easier (and because of the above may be cheaper) to go straight to the specialist.
If it’s a movement where parts are available then support your local watch maker 100%

    Thanks for the reply's guys!

Yeah I think it's goign back for the long wait! It needs a good service as well - so might as well go the whole hog and send it off! I'll have to make do with the Blancpain!
