Job wanted in the Midlands; 1 day a week for a limited time.

    Greetings all

About 18 months ago I asked for suggestions for a career change (this thread).

It's been suggested that what might work well is just a small, temporary change: one day a week doing something different for a few weeks or months.

So I'm on the lookout for just that: a job (paid or not, I don't mind) that would give me some fresh challenges with interesting people.

I'm in middle of the Midlands, have a clean driving licence, no criminal record (in fact enhanced BDS); I'm honest, hardworking, intelligent (well-read and educated to postgraduate degree level).

I'm not terribly physical or practical but I can communicate well. Ideally I think I'd enjoy a "flat" team structure with stimulating colleagues.

So: who fancies a 50 year old intern? For the right place or people this could be a win/win. And I'll wear some nice watches.

Feel free to drop me a PM; all reasonable offers considered.

Hospital driver volunteer. My friend does this using his own car (mileage paid). Takes patients to distant specialist appointments and saves the ambulances for other work.

    Good luck with your search!

I read your other post and decided to have a quick look around. Neither bits sound like they suit you right now but you'd never know in a couple of years if you do decide on a full change, they may be more interesting.

The structure may not be flat enough for your liking but I can see the appeal of an apprenticeship (even if it's not one like the one above). In your sort of a situation it may open up something where you get to learn on the job with relatively low expectations at the start but then with your previous experience could very quickly lead onto bigger and better things.

Just a thought! Good luck again.

Whereabouts in the Midlands are you? Would you consider more than 1 day?

Feel free to respond by PM if preferred.

Those jobs look very interesting, thanks, especially the first one. Just need to clear it with my wife, the Bishop and the Almighty (in that order).

    I really appreciate that.

Don’t know if its of use to you . I have a brand new van in the manchester area that is literally surplus to requirements . I was let down on a business venture after securing the van lease on trust .

Now I’m. Stuck with the van for the next 2.5years . Rather than having it sitting idle gathering dust I was considering finding someone that can use it for the cost of the payments , sub lease essentially or interesting in partnering up as a man with a van type of thing .

Van is electric and high end marque . Quite difficult to obtain right now.

    I’ll probably put a post up .

I applied for the first one as it sounded like a great match for me, but they said no thanks. So much for transferable skills! :-( (A friend of mine said "A communications specialist is actually a thing, like an engineer or a logistics professional. It isn't the same as a professional communicator. It just doesn't seem like a good fit. No criticism of you, but you have a different profession." Looks like he was right.)

That's a great proposition for someone, not me but someone. Maybe worth a thread in its own right? Thanks for thinking of me.

That first link is for what you describe though, not what your friend describes - that role has nothing to do with engineering or logistics, it's all about actual communications in a variety of formats?

As the Research Communications Specialist, you will be responsible for crafting compelling communications materials for audiences both within and outside the University. This includes developing an overview and guidance webpage for the SRF, creating case studies of successful SRF initiatives, and writing briefings and reports. You will also manage the department's online communications, including the intranet, website, and social media channels. Additionally, you will oversee the production of promotional materials for SRF campaigns and events, such as dedicated websites, brochures, leaflets and posters, while ensuring that SRF communications adhere to the University's guidelines on branding.

I'm sorry to hear that - I think they've been closed minded and missed an opportunity. It says more about them than you though - don't let it bother you. Perhaps keep an eye out for similar things now you've come across something that has caught your attention.

Also ... See my screenshot ... I think it is what you and I thought it was.

Any companies that need drivers to take elderly people to appointments?

Here in Toronto. Couple of companies. One called ICARE. You don't wait around. Just take them and someone else picks them up

Any large stores that need greeters or shops that need someone to help take groceries out to customers cars?

    DON
