    New level of fakes

    Let’s be careful out there.

Friend of mine just sent me a picture of a watch he bought while shopping at a market.

He’s quite excited and thinks his £2 purchase is a precious vintage Rolex.

Although it‘s extremely difficult to tell due to the superb quality I can’t help feeling it may be fake.

I’m sure it may fool even the experts out there.

    What’s your thoughts?

I honestly got a call to ask me if I thought it was a real Rolex 

    Neil

I'm no expert, but I do have a quartz Rolex and in comparison that bracelet looks aftermarket, IMO.

If anyone else has a Rolex for £2, I'm all ears.

I like the application of vanishing point perspective to the alignment of upper and lower text blocks.

    Looks legit.

One of the best examples of that particular model I ever did see.

Whoever bought that was all ears, there were blocking his eyes.

No, it’s a rare prototype. I believe only three were made, one is in the Rolex vault in Switzerland, the other recently sold to an unnamed buyer at Sotheby’s for £23.7m.

    Lucky find!

Looking forward to a circular cyclops appearing on a Sub sometime soon

It evidently has the rare constellation function, where the hour markers migrate across the dial in concert with key celestial bodies.

More than worth its weight in gold I'd say. Your friend can boost his paper profit even further by getting someone like Seth to sort out that bracelet stretch. Also, don't proclaim fake just yet - if it's using a Rolex movement then all good, according to some.

I think Haywood will be adding a new chapter to his “ superfake” guide having seen this. Those clever counterfeiters.

Back in my Rolex days the question often asked by people who did not know me was 'is it real?'.

Continues to this day, Chris. The difference now is that I tend to tell strangers that mine is Kowloon special.

The times I've seen stuff like that at boot sales/flea markets.
    Cheers,

I thought the fakes had Bolex on the dial so it must be real.

If it's got a set of papers and a box it is guaranteed to be real.

It has to be fake, it has a decent bracelet.
