    In depth: 1967 Glycine Combat

I just acquired this excellent 1967 Glycine Combat and thought I would share it with TZ-UK.

This example was manufactured in the inaugural year of the Combat model, 1967, in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. The Combat was designed to feature the EPSA Compressor case, complete with rubber gasket surrounding the movement.

The Combat was equipped with the ETA 2472 automatic movement, in 17, 21, or 25 jewels. The 2472 featured a bi-directional winding system, semi-quickset date adjustment, hacking feature, and was capable of chronometer-grade performance thanks to precise regulation using a moveable hairspring stud and long regulator arm.

My example below is equipped with a vintage aftermarket beads of rice bracelet by Speidel, with folded steel links. The tritium hour numerals have developed an attractive pale yellow patina.

The three photos of the watch innards are not from this watch, but a Combat model I had about 10-12 years ago.

1967 was the year I was wounded, so this Combat has special meaning for me. The Glycine Combat and Airman were available in U.S. military PXs during the Vietnam War and were purchased by many servicemen.

The watch functions beautifully, and keeps excellent time!

It's 34mm, but wears larger due to the large dial and very narrow bezel.

What a great watch, and a great story surrounding both it and your reasons for wanting it. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Tom, that's a beautiful watch, so compact yet with everything you could need. Personally I'd have it on a NATO but what do I know? :)

    I hope you're keeping well!

    All the best

Hey David, Thanks. I've actually been toying with the idea of finding a NATO for it - - maybe khaki.

That is absolutely spot on, except I'd second the need for a nato. Lovely watch, great find.

Glycine used really good cases and top drawer dial makers in the 50/60s they really are under valued watches when compared to more mainstream competitors of a similar vintage.
Easily as good if not better in some cases than Omega. Same can be said for the movements they used. (In my opinion obviously).
This means they are usually in pretty good shape when they are found on the vintage market. Your dial is almost perfect.
    It’s a lovely watch

I've got a couple of new and unused 18mm NATOs - one grey, one a proper shade of khaki - PM me your address and I'll post them over.

Thanks much but no need. The one I have is great...the photo colour is off though.
