Apparently the photographer dropped the watch and detached the hand and so cut-and-paste it on the image, but didn't paint-out the dislodged one, and didn't tell Damasko what he'd done...

WUS is still having a minor melt-down about it, and it must be admitted, as dropped-bollocks go, releasing that image is a whopper!

Doesn’t do much for the rugged tool watch image does it?

My son managed to drop my Sinn 756 from a 1.5 metre height onto a hard floor last week. Not only did the hands not fall off, it now seems to be running slightly more accurately than before.

O/T but if anyone wants to trade a psychotic three year old for a Seiko 5 or similar, PM me.

Really? Great story, I only noticed because of the post, but just the thing for WUS to get excited about!
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!

Indeed it does not. Suspect they got caught-up in the rush to get these prototypes Out There, and the whole QA thing from start to finish basically didn't happen. Hardly unique to Damasko, but unquestionably a major own-goal.

German-Mike has been firefighting like he owns shares in Damasko (which, for all I know, he does)!

He got a bit uptight recently when I suggested that Damasko took their initial case design from Sinn, for whom they had previously been manufacturing cases. Which is true. Of course Damasko could have had input into the Sinn design to start with, but I wouldn't bet on it.

It's such a generic design (other perhaps for some details of pusher and crown gasketing) that it's hard to see why anybody would care overmuch.

Don't get me wrong, I also like both, but they've coexisted happily for decades, so hard to see why anyone outside the industry would wax vexatious...

Yeah, quite. There isn’t much magic in any tool watch case design really, any technical innovations aside. I only mentioned it on WUS in the context of a thread where someone was noting that the Damasko design had influenced someone else’s case design. Just a historical note really.

They used to be quite hand-in-glove, and there was clearly a bit of fall out.
When Sinn finally came out with the SZ01 movement in the EZM10 back in 2011 (which they named and started developing in 2003 when Sinn were working with Damasko), Damasko announced his first versions (of the centre minute chrono) within a very short period of the Sinn announcement. A few months, if not weeks later. He then took another 6 or more years to actually bring it to market in the DC80 back in 2017.
I surmised that Herr Damasko had more than a little influence on the SZ01 movement design, and wanted to protect his rights to what he helped develop, by announcing his version some time before it was complete and ready to go.
Regardless, it is very impressive that a company of the size of Damasko has developed and patented so much watch tech. Chapeau.

For all my modded watches, I tend to do a “drop test” into a foam cushion to check if I assembled them correctly, followed by wearing them on a 2.4km jog - if any of the hands catch on each other, I’ve not done my job well.

I don't get it, they all look the same, did you know you have to pay half then wait for the watch?

You have to admire the ingenuity that went into this. But a clumsy twat like me would also have to worry about what would happen when you accidentally smacked it into a door handle.

Timex brought out some of their watches with a ltd edition collab with seconde seconde and naturally they sold out in a flash.

I’d struggle to tell the time on that, minute markers and a clear indication of the hour markers is what I need

Cheaper to buy a new bezel insert than replace the entire bezel ring.

I think the sword hands, no date model is the most attractive dial of theirs I’ve seen. This is usually where they fall down I find, but that’s nicely simple and balanced.

    Ł18k - I'll pass.

Wouldn't want a watch that light anyway.

I assume it would be 18k before tax so add another 20% to that.

While I am not really a fan of Ming watches one thing that he has done is make his watches unique, the shape of the case, the print on the inside of the crystal you know its a Ming watch.

Ming watches are pretty much their own little niche now but with the whole 50% deposit, put your deposit down between a certain time of day only etc you are either into the brand or you are not.

It's a Timex - only the mad pay Retail - at the Ł200 or so I would actually pay for this seems fine.

Me too, Certina provides excellent VFM with this kind of thing. Is it me or does the crown look to be sharply cut-off as if the image is cropped? If it screws in that far and protrudes that little it does look a little sharp-edged. And the bezel looks to be off as it lines up at 6 but not at 12.

  35. #785

Was reading about these earlier. The model numbers are C024.907.18.051.00 and C024.907.17.281.10. Looking forward to seeing some real world pics/vids of the black dial. Only 3Hz and no regulator.

I had this movement in a PH500m and it ran very well. I actually appreciated the slower beat as it paid homage to a more vintage mechanical movement in the way the second hand moved around the dial.

Likewise. Really did not want to be adding anything else this year, but I’ve been suckered in by the limited edition and my abilities to exhibit any kind of restraint has deserted me again. Wish they had both been normal production runs and I would have held off. Oh well………….pre order placed!

It probably does run well, but if you use an independent for your service or regulating they can be a pain in the arse to regulate without a fine adjuster.

I bought the Helson tribute to the DS-2 because I couldn't find an original Certina in good condition and not stellar pricing.

Now Certina do a reissue ... and I'm considering buying the orange DS-2 and selling the Helson. Even through they are visually very similar (as you would expect) and the CTC would be a few hundred quid. What a mad hobby this is.

The limited edition gumph on the yellow dial is annoying IMHO but they do look like cracking watches and most likely not stupidly priced either.
