Thread: Fidget things

  1. #1

    Fidget things

I know spinners were a craze a while back but actually it's still a thing. Well fidget things are still a thing.

I have to read a lot at a laptop for work and concentrate , and use a fidget spinner, you can get clickers and magnets and beads and pill shaped things etc etc, all designed to help you concentrate by giving your hands something to do.

Anyway I just spent 400 quid on a few, as my one and only trusty that cost 5 quid gave up. Just wondered if anyone else uses any fidgety things a d can recommend.

I'm not expecting a long thread.

My suggestion would be a non-locking one hand opening pocket knife with a cutting edge of 3 inches or less, probably using detentes rather than a backspring so that it's more fidgetable. Useful for letters, snacks and meals, and good to fidget with (though of course unlikely to be suitable if you're in the office!).

I have a couple of MecArmy ones that I think are great. Also have a stainless sphere that sits on my desk & I can spin or fiddle with.

Found I used them a lot when I was under a lot of work pressure at the start of lockdown. Don’t tend to use them as often now as my role has changed completely joining a different team and a boss that wasn’t a James_

I see Hennies has the premium MecArmy spinner at £100 almost half price. Damn tempting to be fair.

They either do or the don't, I'm very restless and they work for me. I don't have a long attention span. These things will be on an individual basis. I can't roll my tongue, some can etc etc

As for price yeah it's mental you can get one for 5 quid and they do exactly the same as what 400 quid will do.

But hey ho, a 5 quid watch can tell the time same as Rolex

Nope , i bought 5 though, some ceramic bearings and a bearing remover

    If that makes a difference

Tbh why buy anything more expensive than the cheapest option, if it was that simple we'd all have Sekonda quartz

I’ll be buying some from black cloud in the near future, good quality and a top bloke to deal with.

Those I have to say, look atrocious for actual use.
If you're at home as it's a locker, something like the Spyderco Ikuchi is a great fidgeter as you can use the zippo-like jimping on the blade to open it, or disengage the compression lock and fidget away. Extremely slim and a beastly slicer for house duties.
The Civivi Appalachian Drifter is a non-locker, and extremely fidgetable. The blade detente mechanism means it's not suitable for harder use out and about, but desky tasks all's good.

Edgar Brothers is the only UK source I'm aware of (don't risk knivesandtools.co.uk as they actually ship from the Netherlands). Importing locking folders from abroad can lead to misunderstandings with customs/Border Force, your local constabulary paying you a visit and expensive losses due to incorrect seizures that you can only have returned to you if you take them to court; i.e. importing lockers is now a complete joke!

Edgar currently have 6 in stock: https://www.edgarbrothers.com/spyderco-ikuchi/

The Tropen is also mad fun (now discontinued, but available also from Edgar with 7 in stock), but a much larger knife and more expensive. Some people also think it's hideous, but I'm rather a fan!

It's a pretty crap website - they're primarily a firearms dealer and distributor for other retailers, so their customer facing stuff is definitely lacking!

And congrats, that was a swift decision! The Ikuchi is my primary fidgeter. You'll probably build up a callous on your forefinger or thumb from the zippo-jimping, it's a proper functional tool toy.

188 SS bearings. How are you pressing to remove?

  45. #45
You need their bearing removal tool

All their bearings are R188 SS, spin for ages, the ceramic bearings mess smooth but more feedback
