    Regulators - popular or not?

Don’t see much about them or their derivatives but thought I’d add one to my small collection.
This should be incoming next Nov. https://garrick.co.uk/shop/watches/regulator-mk-2/
    Anyone have something similar?

IMHO it's a lazy way to make a watch (simpler than bringing everything back to the centre pinion) and they look like old electricity meters.

    But that's just me.

Not until Rolex make one I suspect, at least on here.

    Too innovative for Rolex.

I think they look cool. Not sure I’ve ever seen one I like enough to buy. I get a feeling that I’d get annoyed at not being able to tell the time at a glance.

I have a Hamilton regulator. I like it as it’s quite an interesting piece. However I do struggle to tell the time with it to be honest.

    Think again.

I have the Oris XXL Regulator, my first mechanical watch bought in the mid-late noughties. No issues telling the time here. I like the clarity of the dial.

[A few rungs below the Garrick I admit.]

I borrowed a Regulator type watch a few years back for a month. I found it hard to quickly tell the time at a glance.

Legibility is becoming more important to me these days.

Funnily enough, I’ve just put an order in for a regulator , always fancied one. Like the clean look.

I've fancied a regulator for a long time but struggle to really see a really compelling argument for one for me. They tend to be a bit dressier than I typically wear bit I'd like to try one out at some point, probably a used Hamilton or something.

I think they make the act if telling the time more difficult.

Although I’m not really interested, part of me fancies one of these, suitably bonkers, but big case / small movement syndrome.

I had an Oris regulator a few years ago. Nice looking watch but always had to look twice to know the time.

I had one very briefly years ago but Im afraid as others have said, they just make instant time checking harder work so arent for me.

Perversely that’s what I like about it. I’d have to give it more attention than normal and hopefully better appreciate it. That’s the theory anyway….

Chronoswiss have been making them for quite a while now, I prefer the older models

I’ve got a Meistersinger so not being able to tell the time quickly is something I’m used to.

I’m curious about regulators and this one in particular.

It’s just overpriced for what would be another novelty.

I think he'd wear something a lot more tasteful and on topic.

Maybe not so popular, I have 2 of them and it takes some time to get used to them.

In that case perhaps the design could be improved further by having the minute hand run anti-clockwise, and putting the seconds on the back?

Lovely, Jocke. Always thought that is one of the nicest Dornbluths I've seen

That Louis Erard is a thing to behold. Is that some kind of LE or something?

I had one of these, pure class and beautiful blue leather strap. It always got very positive comments.

I love the history behind Patek's only regulator in the current line up.

I think the answer to the OP's question is, no, they aren't popular, otherwise there would be more of them about.

Personally, I really like both the look and the general idea/layout and would love to try one. Unfortunately I haven't found one I like enough at a price I'm prepared to take a punt on. The Dornbluth is definitely my stand out favourite so far though.

Always fancied them myself, but most have been huge cases , however, this at 41mm looks the business - just hope it looks as good in the metal as I've ordered one from Alpina (be here in Feb).

Make sure you post some photos. This one also caught my eye but thought there might be a bit too much going on for me.

The kitten was my wife's birthday present - a seal point Rag Doll. In the history of birthday presents to Mrs S, it definitely ranks as one of the better ones from the last 30 years.
