    Seiko pogue zaratsu polishing

I had my yellow dial pogue refurbished by a guy in Poland Called Lapinist. Thought I would share my experience with his service - He mainly seems to work on vintage grand seiko watches but was happy to do the pogue.

The watch came back to me this week and I am super happy with the work, it looks flawless to me. I believe he adds metal to repair the dents etc then shapes the case and brushes and polishes to finish.

I’m not too worried about originality as although it was sold to me as an all original watch, I much prefer it like this. Some quick pics below. I also fitted an uncle seiko president bracelet to complement the new look.

Blimey. I’ve never seen finishing of that standard before.

Too tempting to get it overdone - older stuff is better with some history IMHO.

I used to think the same until I saw a refinished Omega Speedy MK2 from STS compared to a patina riddled version . That’s one that I wish I’d never sold :(

Looks nice enough and excellent standard of work, but with the battered bezel it jars a bit. Some watches should be left to bear scars.

I can see that work being an asset on Grand Seiko and the like though. Out of interest what did he charge?

I agree if it’s a family heirloom or where the history is known to me, some time in the history of this pogue unfortunately was an attempt with emery cloth or similar.

It is a bit of a contrast yes, I was looking for a decent original bezel insert but lost interest as they all seem battered! The case refurbishment was 300 Euros but add postage and tax to that. I’m sure I will add some scars in time

That looks superb, thanks for sharing.

I was taught to grind and lap as part of my toolmaking apprenticeship many years ago so can appreciate the skills required to deliver results like this.

Very impressive, thanks for sharing. Saw some of his work on instagram - great to see some pictures and your impression. A nice pogue is still on my wishlist as well :-)

Looks really great. Simply horses for courses - some people prefer some battle scars, but seeing an old watch 'box fresh' like that is also an absolute treat when it's done so well. The King Seiko in the article looks amazing.
