Getting closer ... still missing a Mark X; I am sure Trident 7 has one??

I am guessing a Mark IX would be a rare beast ... no black Mark XVIII or blue Mark XX ...

There was a white dial XV, I had one myself. There were two versions, the first done for a jewellers called Gadebusch and a limited edition of 50; mine was 42/50. Then IWC brought out an (if you will) unlimited edition, no idea how many of those were made. But the later version had MARK XV printed above the AUTOMATIC.

IWC have certainly been busy with the mark series. I have added that to the list.

I believe there was no 14 because it is unlucky in certain countries in east Asia.

Perhaps Paul Hardcastle intended to pre-order one, but ended up buying IWC's entire stock in a single phone call.

I see what you did there, vvvvvvvvvvv very funny.

13 and 14 where missed because of bad luck, no mention why 19 was missed out.

I addition to the white dial Mark XVIII I also have the "Special Watch for Aviators" (ref. IW3720-08), which was released under the radar back in 2017 in a series of 27 pieces. What differentiates it from its brethren are its sandblasted steel case, blued steel MOD handset, and no-date "Explorer" dial. Alas, I can't seem to figure out how to upload photos off my phone, so I'm afraid that you'll just have to take my word for it. ;-)

    Regards,
    Adam

PS - There's also the Top Gun "Google" version, which was made for Watches@, a private watch club made up of, you guessed it, Google employees. (The site Loupethis.com recently had one up for auction: https://loupethis.com/auctions/iwc-p...imited-edition)

PPS - Oh, and let's not forget the latest edition to the club, the Top Gun Black Aces, with its full lume dial...

I had a chat to the IWC rep at Oxford St. WoS some time ago. He was obviously in the know when he ‘predicted’ to me that there would be no 19 and they’d go straight to 20.
His ‘theory’ was that the XX would actually be the end of the Mark series for IWC. This was a few weeks before the 20 was released.
I don’t know if they’d “announce” the discontinuation of the Mark series or just stop making it one day but his first prediction was accurate so if anyone is having doubts about going for one maybe the 20 is your last chance.

Some of these variants I would consider to be IWC pilots watches rather than part of the mark series ….

Fair enough, though the SWFA is based off of the Mark XVIII and uses the same case and internals. The only differences are the dial, handset and case finish. In fact, it is referred to internally as a Mark XVIII, so make of that what you will.

As for the “Google”, I suppose it’s questionable. If one considers the current crop of Top Guns to be Marks, then sure, but given that IWC has stopped referring to the ceramic-cased pieces with Mark nomenclature, it probably doesn’t make the cut. Still, a cool piece nonetheless.

    Adam

It’s an arbitrary designation as with all these things.

I guess the way I’m looking at is simple.

The Mark IX, X and XI are the starting point as issued watches.

Mark XII is the start of when IWC started designing watches based off the previous mark heritage for the general public.

So I guess I consider a Mark series watch to be those with the word “Mark” on the dial plus the. IX, X and XI.

Plus of course the obvious exceptions… like the Mark XVIII tribute to Mark XI.

That Google watch and the SWFA are interesting editions that I’d never seen before but I wouldn’t consider them Mark series watches based on the above despite the similarities. I wonder what it costs to get a limited run of 27 watches done?

There was no Mark IX or X, these are modern internet names applied retrospectively. The Mark 11 was the first. The “Mark IX” was not issued, although it was created for pilots.

i have a white dialled Mark XV (the “unlimited” one), a Mark XII and a Mark 11.
