Mandrake Handshake have recently been brought to my attention.
Buy some '70s Herbie Hancock records.
Teddy Swims
He’s got a fabulous voice and a more fabulous look.
Lots of variation in his stuff and some brilliant covers.

This one is great too. Totally different style.

Anything by
Paul Desmond
Stan Getz
Oscar Peterson
Milt Jackson
Manchester Orchestra - The Million Masks of God
Manchester Orchestra - A Black Mile to the Surface
These two albums have been in rotation heavily the past few months. Crank ‘The Silence’ up on a black mile…. Brilliant. Saw them a few months ago and one of the best live bands I have seen. From Atlanta. If you haven’t heard of them well worth a listen.
Anything by Warren Zevon
Spiritualized - ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space
Are you looking to demo the capabilities of the kit rather than new music?
Nevermind by Infected Mushroom will test an amplifiers control over speakers.
Popcorn by Hot Butter will give your tweeters a real workout.
Limit to Your Love by James Blake will see how low they can go.
Black Skinhead by Kanye West is really well recorded.
The Titanic Suite by James Horner is an epic 20 minute piece.
Múm - Yesterday Was Dramatic, Today is OK.
Boards of Canada - The Campfire Headphase.
Sigur Rós - Ágćtis byrjun.
Múm is tricky for many to 'get', BoC maybe less so - both certainly offer something a little different from the norm. Sigor Rós, and that particular album, is dreamlike.
I'm just starting out on Squarepusher, I think I could get on quite well with some of that. Bicep the same.
Camelphat, Elderbrook, Röfös Du Sol and Bob Moses have been sating my electronic/dance requirements recently.
I think that'll do for now!
I highly recommend Mark Lanegan. Quite prolific and may take a bit of work getting into. 'Bubblegum' is a great place to start with him. He also did some great work with Isobel Campbell, including my favourite ever Christmas song, Time of the Season.
The James Blake track might hit the brown note!
On a seasonal note, try Cantate Domino version of O Helga Natt, the choral soundstage is spine tingling.
That infected mushroom cleared my blocked ears

Haha.
I've spent the last 30+ years going to hi-fi shows and hearing many manufacturers play the same plinky-plonky or husky voice stuff which is no real challenge.
Many demo rooms have been humbled over the years when Nora Jones has been replaced by a request to play the 'Mushroom'.... 😀
Similarly but much more tunefully, for speaker speed and ability to play what feel like dozens of instruments together, try Fibonacci by Nora En Pure and listen for the number of layers your system can resolve.
Here's my last.fm. Some solid, mature options and absolutely nothing to be sneered at our bullied over...
Been listening to Norah Jones and SYML the last few weeks though. Bit more refined.
I will not take any abuse over Maroon or Anti Hero by Taylor Swift. On repeat.
I'm really enjoying Post Malone, Dua Lipa and Dominic Fike rn

The entire Music Has The right To Children album puts me immediately back to post pub house parties in the 00's, playing cards or Tony Hawk until dawn. That and RJD2.
Listen to some classic japanese noise rock
Fushitsusha
Keiji haino
Les rallies denudes
And finish off with some classic free jazz
Peter brotzmann and Albert ayler
Really test the speakers

Tool - Fear Inoculum production is one of the strongest I've ever heard. Recorded at the legendary United Recording Studios, it has a sense of space between the instruments I've rarely heard in rock. You can hear every note, every little nuance. Even if you don't like the music, the album is so different to anything else done today. It's designed for high quality equipment as the dynamic range is vast.
Cheers! My mates would, to a man, describe some of the stuff I listen to as "that beep bleep tsch click white noise crap" for which I'd have to agree, except for the crap part. I haven't listened to Autechre in years, I couldn't really access it back then and found it too extreme, having said that given what I've been listening too more recently I may look upon them more favourably nowadays.
Good to see that BoC, and Music Has The Right To Children, has had a few mentions. The three albums in my first post will always be my first loves from each group though other albums are still right up there.
For a great instrumental try From Now On by Band-Maid.
Gracey - excellent voice and lyrics.
Lorde - as above.
Bread - anything from early 70’s.👍
Agadoo by black lace
Not forgetting
Bernard Cribbins - Right Said Fred
Charlie Drake - My Boomerang Won't Come Back
The new Beyoncé album is really good.
If you’ve time on your hands try the Sun Bear concerts by Keith Jarrett. The first disk is beautiful and it’s great music to work to.

Breitling Cosmonaute 809 - What's not to like?
If you like the Sigur Rós album you may wish to check out bands like Explosions in the Sky (my favourite album of theirs being The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place) and the Japanese band Mono. Post Rock was a favourite genre of mine for a while.
Boards of Canada fans may also like 65daysofstatic. Some may find it hard to get but I do like it.
Zero 7 is always a safe bet for a chilled vibe as well.
Thanks all, new headphones arriving soon and will check apt of these out
