R.I.P Sir
a REAL hero, who showed TRUE bravery.
“I was just doing my job”
101 years old.
Rest in Peace Sir.
RIP another brave young man.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
R.I.P. Sir and thank you for your service, your sacrifice and your bravery.
RIP Sir, and may I add, a damn good innings.
Men like Johnny Johnson MBE DFC are those who made this country what it was and yet to them it was duty, they expected no reward and tried to avoid talking about it. A remarkable generation indeed.
I remember listening to an interview with him a few years ago, on the dambuster raid, despite the incredible danger, he wouldn't release 'his' bomb until the pilot got the height, speed and position spot on. He told the tail gunner who was complaining "haven't we let the bloody bomb go yet?" as they turned around for yet another run that it would be absolutely pointless dropping it if the conditions weren't correct, consequently they came around and dropped the bomb on the 10th run when the pilot managed to hold steady at 30ft above the water. He said never before had the callout "bombs away" been more welcome!
RIP Johhny.
A genuine Thank You for your dedication to duty when we really needed it.

I was fortunate enough to meet him about 25-years ago.
Not many of the Greatest Generation left now
Rest in Peace
His life story is a truly excellent read, some truly poignant moments along the way.
Made of different stuff back then.
