As far as Aliexpress goes, not usually a loss. I've had perhaps five watches from there and no problems so far. Sorry to hear your experience has been different.

Always wise to be wary but I have bought quite a few things over the last 2 years and had 2 issues. A watch with a broken bezel and one seller without stock to fulfil the order. Both times I got a full refund.

A few cheap items were very poor quality but they were very cheap and I've found more good value items than poor ones. Although with Amazon and other UK seller and now having to pay VAT its more risk/hassle for a smaller saving.

Yep I’ve bought loads of cheap tat of Ali and all of it still works.
Weirdly (or not) the inverse is true if DH gate. All the stuff I got from there is busted rubbish.
