    2022 - 23 snooker season

I know that we're halfway through the season but I wanted to post and, rather than revive an old thread, I thought I'd start an open-ended one for anyone to use for future comments.

I've just watched, and thoroughly enjoyed, Jack Lisowski v Ali Carter at the Scottish on Eurosport. Being the first session of the day it's too early for the commentary team so you don't have to listen to them draining on about what might, or might not, happen next.

It was a great game. Maybe not a classic, but one to watch, IMO, if you can catch it on replay before you see he score(s).

It would be nice to see JL win some trophies. He has the talent, just needs to believe it.
Also, I would love Ding to make a proper comeback.
And I want Shaun Murphy to go away.... for ever. That glittering suit he wore in the UK was embarrassing

I was really hoping Jimmy White would of further than the first round of the UK Championships.

I used to love watching him during the 1990s against Stephen “Iceman” Hendry!

Although I have watched some of the major tournaments over the last few years, I cannot recall seeing the four table roll-on / roll-off format before. Thus I was surprised to see Jack Lebowski playing a second match on the same day and I know now that he wasn't alone in doing so.

With two unseeded players in the last eight there is plenty more snooker to watch and, who knows, maybe a surprise or two to come?

Mark Williams (8) will have to get past Luca Brecel (9) first...a match that is currently under way.

I cannot believe Judd is out already (spoiler alert)!

Cracking comeback by Rob Milkins earlier against Joe Perry.

Did you see Vefaei’s break in the second frame against Ronnie ? Mental. And now he’s getting a hiding

There’s no space for disrespecting your opponent in snooker, that break was completely unprofessional. I hope Ronnie keeps his cool and demolishes him.

It was strange, but the link above maybe explains things.

Anyway, I am a huge Ronnie fan generally, so let's hope he has a good tournament.

Petulant disrespectful brat, I would not do that ‘piss-take’ break even against my mates at the snooker club! I hope Ronnie slaughters him!

    Some wonderful snooker tonight.
Si versus Brecel a fantastic watch.
    Unlike the new grinder Selby.

Brecel won against O'Sullivan and Si stayed the course to take deciding frames against Murphy and McGill. Put either of them up against one or other of the Marks and we'll have to see what happens. It's great in prospect, let's hope it's a spectacle to watch. Every so often I like to turn the audio off and simply watch the snooker. Especially when they find it necessary to run over the possible / probable statistics for the umpteenth time. Then again, that's their job.

  26. #26
I'm praying for Brecel to win through tomorrow and go onto win the championship. I have liked him from his first appearance in the world's many years ago.

But Si is exceptional, if he wins then I hope it will be a majestic final between him and Allen.

Otherwise, it's a Tarantino grind house battle.

    Come on luca v Allen

Brecels playing some amazing stuff but i doubt he can maintain that over 18 frames especially against Selby. He stands a chance of burning himself out

Selby really played ball, unlike normally were I find him too much on te defence. Very pleasing and active to see.

Phenomenal competition, I can't remember a better one. That fortbight had it all: back to back 146s, two 147s including one in the final, a ridiculous comeback against O'Sullivan, a bigger comeback in the semi and a sure-footed canter over the line with the ominous presence of Selby closing in like a baddie in a horror movie.

Amazing win, Luca Brecel is surely EVERYONE'S favourite player right now. I f**king love snooker.

Really was something to go from not winning a match at the crucible in the last five attempts to the world champion.

I thought he'd blown up, when he couldn't pot a ball in the last few frames. Looks like he had a word with himself.

sorry…and I meant to also say how it was great to see Luca Brecel win because of how well he played as well as how entertaining his style of play was. It reminds me a little of watching Jimmy White all those years ago…

You need a contest to make a match and it was that. Nothing more boring than a thrashing in any sport unless you're a supporter of one or the other. I find it both relaxing and tense at the same time if that's possible. Great tv.

Brilliant tournament this year, and a superb final. I’m a huge Selby fan and was delighted to see it was the jester and not the siesta who showed up to the final with Luca. That 147 was incredible, as was the fact Brecel’s nerve held. I’m already missing the snooker not being on the telly…

I have not watched snooker for many a moon, but this had me hooked with Si and Brecel it looks like the future is bright.
I was always a Alex Higgings Jimmy White fan. But Steve Davis really is interesting, a great commentator

ICYMI...penalties for Chinese snooker players announced:

...Jason Ferguson WPBSA Chairman said “This has been a very complex case.”

“It has been heart-breaking to see some young talented players fall foul of the WPBSA Conduct Regulations through pressure exerted by two senior players.

“This behaviour has been recognised as wholly unacceptable by the imposition of two lifetime bans from participating in recognised snooker in any way.

“Those who try to corrupt sport are constantly trying to find new ways to avoid our monitoring processes and this outcome must be taken as a lesson to those who think they can avoid detection.

“If any player is involved in fixing a snooker match, they will be caught and will face severe penalties.

“I am pleased that the Commission found that they did not see from the present case ‘any evidence of a wider culture of wrongdoing in snooker’.

“The WPBSA will continue its strong stance against those who try to manipulate sport and today’s outcome sends out a clear message that match fixing will not be tolerated in snooker.”...

ICYMI...match-fixing: 'Perfect storm' led to corruption scandal:

..."As a sport we are incredibly clean and the vast majority of players are there to make a living and do well out of the sport.

"I think snooker's in a good place, and actually, although it's a strange thing to say, I think it's in a better place after the case we've just had."
