    An inspiration for his battle with MND and awareness raised of this horrible illness, not to mention a Scottish legend and rugby star.

    Quite apart from his status one of the great players, he demonstrated such great courage from diagnosis to demise.

    Would that I had a fraction of his strength of character.

    Was at a “Friends of St Andrews Whisky Society’ dinner last night in Kincardine with guest speaker John Beattie. As he came to the event he learned of Doddie’s passing. A brave speech about his pal and one that was ever so poignant.

    Rest in peace big fella and may you rise in eternal glory. You’ll be missed for the broad smile you gave in all circumstances.
