Rolex advice needed, please. 16613 LB Serti dial.

Looking at a retirement gift for myself. 33 years in education and I've had enough. This government can do one, I'm cashing in my chips. Lol.

Can anyone confirm that a 16613 has more gentle shoulders than the current Subs? The classic Bluesy has always been my favourite watch, so I'm targeting one with a Serti dial. I've found one but the shoulders seem to be slightly chamfered, if that makes sense. I have a Starbucks and the shoulders are sharp, no chamfering at all. I am wondering if this Serti of 2000 has been overpolished to remove shoulder dings. I really don't know. It looks fabulous.

Can anyone post a pic of their Bluesy, please?

Further question is the price. 2000 watch, serviced, new bracelet from Rolex, new crystal, basically immaculate with box and papers. They want 14,995. I see it at 13.8 to 14.0. Any thoughts? Did those bracelets have numbers stamped anywhere or is that for much older pieces? I'm very happy to have a basically new bracelet but not if it kills the legitimacy of the watch; I doubt it does, but you specialists may know better.

    Appreciate your time and knowledge.

    Michael.

Seems expensive even with the service, but that bracelet must have cost a fair bit. Negotiate hard or look elsewhere.

A quick look at watchfinder and they have 5. Box and papers 2002 for £12.3k. Ok no service and I can’t say if it’s a good one or not. (or it might have but they don’t mention it) but you get a 2 year warranty from watchfinder.

Thanks, haggling is definitely on the cards. Watchfinder examples are not Serti dials though.

Ah yes missed that was a requirement, I thought it just happened to be a serti dial.

I can only guess but given a stainless bracelet is £1600, a two tone oyster sub must be £2500 and I suspect a £700 min service so probably had £3.2-£4K spent on it.

Only advice I’d offer given that you’re retiring and therefore of a certain age is that the contrast between hands and dial on both silver and gold serti dials isn’t great. I’d take the regular blue face any day.

Yes, agree with this albeit I think the black dial is by far the nicer option.

Not a serti, but the blue is drop-dead gorgeous IMO.

Always liked the black dialled version, thought about buying one in 2011 when £3.5k would get a really nice one with minimal signs of wear.......those were the days! The Serti dial woukdn’t be my choice and they’re much harder to find, but it’s each to their own.

These watches are now well over 10 years old and finding a really good example isn’t easy. Bracelet and bezel are expensive to replace and play a larger part in the buying decision. Condition of the watch is more important than box and papers, and no two watches are in identical condition, its a mistake to treat 20 year old watches as commodity items when making comparisons.

I've found a couple of Serti dial 16613s. I'm pretty set on the champagne model. I have a 126610LV and I think the 41mm proportions are superb as well as very comfortable. The Serti dial though, amazing.

Thanks for the replies. 2000 watch, new bracelet and crystal, full set. Where would you price it? £13k, £14k?

I would look for confirmation that the back- story is correct and the bracelet was genuine. I’d look for signs of heavy refinishing, reduced lug width and correct edges. Also check the bezel carefully, if the bracelet got bad enough to justify replacement I’d expect the bezel to suffer too. This watch may have had a very hard life!

You need to inspect the watch carefully to decide whether its worth buying, then worry about the price. That’s how I approach these things, I’m out if touch with prices but it sounds expensive. I’d favour a very clean original example that’s had very limited wear ..........if you can find one!

If its had a Rolex service and new bracelet from them, 14995 isnt unreasonable but also worth a haggle.
For me, it's far better to have a new tight replacement bracelet than worry about "originality".
Older hollow link bracelets are perishable items as far as I see it and if its a long term prospect then without stretch would edge original imo, particularly as TT/Gold had a tendency to get sloppy quicker than steel prior to the new ones.

I definitely go with the black dial as in my opinion makes the watch look slightly more professional than the blue or Serti dial. Also black has a better contrast with the gold allowing the bracelet to take center stage

Have to disagree re the Black dial.
The Blue is much more interesting and makes the watch pop especially in sunlight.
Ideal summer watch IMO although my pic below doesnt show it.

I must say I agree with Tony and Paul, in having a preference for the black TT version. I remember oogling those in Nation Geographics as a youngster, thinking that is the most stylish watch there could ever be. Seeing Tony's pic above, I suppose I still do.

Anyway, best of luck OP, 33 years is a long time and you deserve a treat!
