TBF it's just a penalty - he's been garbage all match. Ramsay too.

Netherlands - Senegal. Best man on the pitch? The referee. Flawless performance of the man. Had it all under control without excessive use of cards, warnings etc. He pulled 3x a yellow card. In all cases, a proper situation for a card.
Netherlands won 2-0. If we have a chance of winning the cup, so will Senegal. They were not worse than the Dutch were, only bad luck.
And our goalie is 2.05 meter tall. That was decisive during the game. FWIW, his first interland game. In fact, he only played 17 games in professional soccer...
No interest at all.

Great performance from England, with signs of a lot more to come.
6 goals and not one score by HK, who'd have thunk!

Seeing England at 6-2 I was expecting Joe Root to head in and dig us out the sh1te again!
Some sweet goals, the forwards, substitutes and full back were all good. Maguire distributed the ball pretty well and added to the attack.
I’m one of life’s pessimists. Iran were poor. Against a good team, I reckon it will be Route 1 down the centre, through midfield, central defence and on to Pickford. A pressing team will have England holed up. Too slow out of defence and difficulties linking up to the forwards who will fall back and then further back. Panic in defence. Pickford gives me the heebie jeebies. He’s not a cool head. Dawdling with the ball at his feet, standing to the side and leaving the goal open. A disaster waiting to happen.
I know naught (except being able to recite the 66 final team line ups, both England and West Germany). That’s good, England will go all the way then.

Credit where credit's due - Grealish remembering his pledge to young Finlay and celebrating his goal with the "Finlay Worm". Just a small thing but it will mean a lot to the lad who has a lot to deal with but seems to handle it well.
Back on Forum Topic - gold Panerai was it? (JG at the post-match interview).
Fair play…. Just saw it on the news…. That little lad is box office! And Grealish was wonderful
It was a PP Aquanaut I think in rose gold?

Did not see that result coming!

Good start for England.
USA had Wales on the rack in the first half and should have scored more.
I'd like to see England and USA go through.
Cheers,
Neil.
Data crunchers tell that the SA had 8.7% of winning from Argentina, based on previous results.

I see Brewdog have set themselves up as “ anti sponsors” . They are donating all revenue ( not just profits) less tax to human rights charities on certain selected beer packs.
Their slogans are fairly provocative:)

Absolutely no atmosphere at this game, it’s like it’s behind closed doors
Haven't watched a minute of the tournament so far, but pleased to see the notification on my mobile that Bayern Munich is down versus Japan.
Someone who lies about the little things will lie about the big things too.
Wow!
Japan just beat Germany 2-1!!
Happy days.
I take it back this is an awesome World Cup! Amazing!
Big, big shout-out to Germany for this! Impressed by their statement. (Written down by a Dutchman who hasn't forgotten the lost 1974 final and absolutely 100% anti 'Die National-11' is!).
One of the German ministers now in Quatar, ostentatiously wore the band on her left arm when inside the stadium while sitting next to Infantio! Great!!
Yesterday, a big sponsor of the German national team has ended the contract with the German Soccer Union because the Germans didn't stand up against the FIFA's ukaze that the One Love band is not allowed. @Raffe: do you have details about this? Or is it wrong info in Dutch newspapers?

Not quite, REWE had informed the DfB already months ago that it would not renew the sponsorship deal, but would use the remaining contract term over the world cup for some activities.
The decision yesterday was that they don't want to be associated with this sh!itshow and rather not be shown in television and other campaigns while the tournament continues. They have created Panini-like collection booklets and are giving them all away for free and will donate any revenue generated in this context to charity.
Fantastic stance, in any case.

Indeed.
I'm afraid that my government's ministers will not have the guts to sit next to Infantino with the band on his/her wrist. "We need to keep the communication channels open." Or similar.
*EDIT: I'm feeling that we're slipsliding away from a proper G&D topic to a BP topic... Sorry for my contribution where it should be too political.
After the Spanish game, the best that Bayern Munich can dream of is a second place in the group. And for that they will have to beat Spain. Oopsies.

Yeah Germany are in trouble as Costa Rica look like a pub team so I'd imagine Japan will beat them. So a German win vs Spain is a must
This is a coupon buster or a world cup. Canada looking like they'll take something out of Belgium.
Spain looked excellent earlier today as did France yesterday (Mbappe class).
If they weren’t so naďve Canada could be 3 goals up.

I haven't yet watched a minute of the World Cup. Simply not interested in football despite paying for Yorkshire under 11s in the 70s. The behaviour of players and managers has turned me off the sport entirely.
Canada should have won but their finishing was abysmal - and the missed pen!
Cheers,
Neil.
