    Flooding Advice

I live in an area prone to flooding (although not in my time residing here) and am wondering what I can do in the way of prevention.

As I live in a semi-detatched house is there any point in having air brick seals / sandbags prepared unless my neighbour does the same ?
Once the waters in his house it’s in mine too ?
Any advice on defence preparation appreciated.
    Thanks

I am not an expert but...

Semi-detached building styles may vary, but I live in a semi-detached house and it is entirely separated from my semi-detached neighbour. There is a solid brick wall from foundation to the top of the roof that separates the two houses. He could be flooded but it would not affect me and vice versa.

So, in my case at least, yes it would be worth preparing for flooding.

They'd leak water in a flooding emergency.

I would ask locals when the area floods what has happened in the past. Eg does water run down the road quickly, if so sandbags may work. If they say the houses go under 6/12” of static water then I guess you are stuffed.

The residents of Hebden Bridge are used to flooding , in their case they have slots in the front door jambs and boards fit in those. They also have water resistant plaster on all downstairs rooms and all elecetric sockets at 2 m up the walls.

They get very frequent and serious floods and from memory are no longer able to secure house insurance.
