It’s hideous. It will cost too much, and will be hoovered up by scalpers.
    However I must have one.

I'm tempted but it depends on price.

I suspect it will be more than I am willing to pay for it.

Agreed, it's hideous, but at least it's 'only' £130

Ha! Thought I’d put it out there and expected exactly those three posts. I’m a big G-shock fan and a big Mario fan (the era from back in the Shigeru Miyamoto SFC days) but somehow I couldn’t wear this at my age. Got to be a great investment though I’m sure.

Will it come free in a box of Weetabix? If not, no thanks.

Ah, that's too much for me for that watch.

£85 or so (considering the module in it) and I would have given in.

I know, arbitrary figures but they are the ones that make a difference to me.

At least this one will have all the letters on the dial…
Mario is this seasons hot nostalgia tie in. I guess my generation must have money now.
I can’t wait for the minecraft x Rolex due in around 15 years time.

Not the Super Mario, but I'm drawn to the green-dialled Seiko Super Cub

I can see why it will be popular, but I certainly wouldn't buy or wear one.

I prefer my G-shocks black, like my coffee.

I’ve tried but can’t get it to add to my shopping basket. Must be either website problems, sold out or good taste police blocking me

    Managed to land one.

Me too, despite saying it's hideous. Sorts out a Christmas present though.

This is a thoroughly miserable thing to say but best thing is to tell him, don't open it , wrap it in bubble and stick it on eBay in ten years time and thank me later...

    :-)

I suspect that in 10 years it will be worth very little.

It's worth most on eBay right now. I think it will be worth about RRP or slightly more than RRP in 1-2 years, but beyond that less and less I reckon.

Could be but then who knows as ever, given a crystal ball we'd all be millionaires, as opposed to seeing it disappear under our noses as at present...

I'm going by most run of the mill G-Shock special editions. They don't seem to hold their value very well as far as I can see. Perhaps too many special editions now, i.e. not special enough except in the short term.

Now I've said this I'll probably be wrong about this one. ;-)

The trouble is, everyone makes special editions of everything nowadays to satisfy ‘collectors’ (in inverted commas) which imho dilutes their appeal significantly.
My analogy is something like Star Wars figures. The original figures produced in the late 70’s and early 80’s are the ‘proper’ ones that kids played with, ripped out of the packaging and the ones that all todays 50 somethings cherish and remember. The ‘collectors editions’ were made Iong after the films came out and the kids grew up, bought by ‘collectors’ and thousands are probably still languishing in lofts unopened - all in a cynical attempt to make a few quid. But there are thousands of them, so they’ll never be worth as much as those originals, as they don’t really have any connection.
I can see the appeal of a 1977 original, and can understand why an unopened one has a value to collectors. But not some 2005 cynical cash grab. So let’s not kid ourselves that todays special editions are special really - there are thousands of them out there!

    I agree about this.

When special/limited editions become run of the mill (even if any particular special edition genuinely has limited numbers) then special/limited editions in general are devalued. Except for the occasional outlier.

I thought this again when I was reading a post about the Tudor P01. They are a bit of an oddity, and I suspect there’s a distinct possibility they might disappear from the catalogue due to lack of popularity. So there will be plenty of people out there who buy one and stick it away unworn as an ‘investment piece’. This behaviour is almost entirely due to watch collecting/investing now being so mainstream. The cat is out of the bag so you’ll never find yourself in possession of something like the original 70’s Milgauss - genuinely unloved, nobody bought them, nobody put one on a safe, hence genuinely rare and very valuable. Sure you might make a couple of hundred quid here and there on a g shock or a plastic moon swatch, or if you’re loaded I’m sure there’s money to be made in the upper echelons but it seems like a lot of effort to me!

Just a great bit of fun
If it puts a smile on your face then you have a winner
P.s ordered one and can’t wait . As far as I’m concerned no sillier than a plastic “moon watch”.

I'd say not remotely as silly. Half the price, also bulletproof and waterproof.

Mine arrived yesterday and the Mrs has already claimed it, surprisingly!

It is just a bit of fun but I do find myself "just buying one more" with the G Shocks as they feel so affordable versus the mechanical watches I own.
