    Favourite live album?

A lot of people don't rate Stereophonics but I do like Kelly Jones' voice. Listening to his live solo album Don't Let The Devil Take Another Day this evening, love it. His voice is the sound of Sunday roast dinners growing up.

What are some of your favoutite live albums?

The Who Live at Leeds from 1970. When the original album came out it only contained a handful of tracks, but later CD reissues extended this to the best part of 2 hours. A full concert including most of Tommy whilst they were at their absolute best live.

If Stop Making Sense counts as a live album as well as a movie soundtrack album I'll go with that.

Used to like that and from the same era of course Scorpions - Tokyo Tapes and Rush - All the World's a stage.

Others I like: Motorhead - No Sleep til Hamnersmith, and the live album that came with Dreamtime by the Cult.

But my favourites are Siouxsie and the Banshees - Nocturne and The Smiths - Rank, mainly because I was there!

But we mustn't forget the daddy of live albums...

    The Space Ritual by Hawkwind.

I also like the first album of Ummagumma by Pink Floyd, great version of Careful with that Axe Eugene. Pity about the second album, but that wasn’t live.

Love live albums. One of the first I ever got was Deep Purple - Made in Japan. Fabulous album. Of the back of that I bought Machine Head and was so disappointed with Highway Star studio version. Just sounded weak compared with the live version.

Other favourite live recordings, although not commercially available as albums are Bruce Springsteen Live at the Agora Ballrooms 1978 on the Darkness on the Edge of Town tour and Bruce at Alpine Valley 1984 on the Born in the USA tour.

Getting back to actual albums: Thin Lizzy Life Live - terrible recording but a great album. Lizzy Live and Dangerous - should really be Live in the Studio. Big Country - Without the aid of a Safety Net. Motörhead- No Sleep Til Hammersmith. Slade - Alive. AC/DC - Bonfire Disc 1 Live at Atlantic Studios all worthy of note.

But my absolute favourite live album has to be Blackfoot - Highway Song Live. A classic! Almost as if someone plugged into the mixing desk and cut it straight onto the vinyl. Anyone that loves rock music should go check it out if they’ve not heard it before. If ever an album captures just how good a live band was without overdubs then this is it. Play it loud!!

W.A.S.P - Live in the RAW

Also watch a lot of YouTube 80’s Judas Priest live, no phones in the air just pure live metal..

I've always been a fan of Wings Over America.

Stop Making Sense is absolutely great.

I'm not a huge fan of live albums, though.

Doesn't get much attention these days but Portishead Roseland NYC is a beauty if it counts.

Wellers Live Wood, but that's more the material I think

Derek and the Dominos Live at the Fillmore - Eric Clapton at his best (and also the Rainbow Concert deserves a mention).
The Band - The Last Waltz

But my all time favourite: Van Morrison - Too Late to Stop Now.

AC/DC's If You Want Blood... was what introduced me to a great live album and it's still up there for me.

Ozzy Osbourne Randy Rhoads Tribute and Under a Blood Red Sky by U2 make up the podium, with an honourable mention for Alive by Daft Punk and All That Could've Been by Nine Inch Nails.

That was one of my favourites too, then I found out it was recorded 'live' in a studio and they later added the audience noises.

    Exit Stage Left by Rush.

Some of it was recorded at the much revered but now long gone Apollo theatre in Glasgow and I was in the crowd.

    Favourite live album?

It’s not been mentioned yet but Jerry Lee Lewis (died recently) live at the star club is reckoned to be a sensational live album. Anyone listened to it?

    Big fan of live albums.
One not been mentioned “One more from the road” Lynyrd Skynrd

As mentioned above some great Springsteen live albums about. The 1978 version of Prove it all Night is fantastic. Lost in the Flood on “Live I at Hammersmith Odeon” is another classic.

Also Bob Dylan, Live at Boudakan.

Springsteen and the E Street Band live at the Hammersmith Odeon 75 is a good early Springsteen live album
Another favourite of mine is the Drive By Truckers - It’s Good to be Alive.
