All Quiet on the Western Front - Netflix

This looks superb. Released today but I have an early flight tomorrow so I'll watch it next week

Started watching it on my iPad , deserves the full screen so will watch it on the big tv later. Probably one of the most engaging opening sequences since enemy at the gates - hope it doesn’t go down hill as fast.

Really good film. For me it’s up there with the best war films of modern times

Really enjoyed it, showed the horrors of war. 17 million people died in the Great War

Brilliant cinematography but couldn't get past the dubbing to English, does anyone know if there's there a release in German with English subtitles?

Isn’t that an option in Netflix?

Yes I'm watching at the moment - you have to switch it to original language in Netflix, I can't endure dubbing either, no idea why the default isn't the original language though.

    It was for me.
I’m pretty sure I’ve never changed any settings either.
I always prefer the foreign language films and series with subtitles as it makes you concentrate .
I’m going to watch this again tomorrow morning .

Totally agree with you regarding concentration - and enjoyment.. I've only recently started using Netflix again after a break so maybe it's went back to default settings for me, I've changed it now so hopefully these will stick.

I'm pretty sure you can choose what language/subtitles you want, check your settings when you play the film or in the general settings.

I've just watched it in German/English subtitles and my first impression is that easily its the best war film to come out in a over a decade . It pulls no punches in showing just how savage, brutal and pointless this war for the rank and file on both sides, only fueled by the utter madness and devoid of reality of each other sides generals.

I didn’t realise that was an option, I’m sure I’ll enjoy it this time!

I must admit I'm not enjoying it due to Germans having super-posh English voices and the 1980's electronic score. Having read this thread I'll have a play with the settings to see if I can find a better one.

EDIT: well, that made a massive difference! German audio with British English subtitles, not the closed caption ones.

    That was a great film.
I find it hard to say I enjoyed it as the subject matter and content were harrowing and visceral in equal measures.
War films like this are too few and far between.

All Quiet on the Western Front - Netflix

Superb movie beautifully filmed, one of the best of recent times imho, really put across the brutality of the Great War and how avoidable a lot of it could have been.

We watched it last evening and echo the praise so far. The dubbing was the best I've seen on a foreign fillum.

Beautifully acted, directed and filmed. Overall I thought it was pretty good with a few daft bits.

I will watch this this evening.

I also watched the Dualist. A breathtaking film I really enjoyed.

I recently watched, enjoyed and recommend " The King" on Netflix.

I watched it this morning, in German with English subtitles.
While I thought it was a good film, for whatever reason I can't put my finger on, I didn't find it as moving as some other films I've seen in the past...maybe over the years I've seen too many war films and documentaries such as The World at War, but I don't feel I've become inured to such horrors.
