Special occasion watch today - I’ve owned this Fat Lady since 1989, it’s been on my wrist for every important event in my life. I love this thing.

And a lovely looking piece it is.
What, if I may ask is the special occasion?

Thank you, I'm always amazed by how well it's held up.

I'm taking my mum to see her brother - for various reasons they haven't seen each other in ten years and I've been trying to get them together for a long time. It's a long trip (especially for an older person) and has taken some-co-ordinating but it will be wonderful for them to see each other again :-).

These days the watch only really comes out for family stuff (my kids were 21 and 18 this year, I wore it for their birthday celebrations and I was wearing it when they were born - where did that time go?) and it seems appropriate for today. The last time it was out before then was for my dad's funeral last year. I wore it on my wedding day, and when I signed divorce papers 20 years later. Uni graduation, my first serious job interview which led to a fulfilling career, the day my now partner and I moved into our dream home...so many memories tied up in a bit of metal. It feels like part of me.

Apologies, clogging up the Friday thread.

Quite sure that no apology is needed; I love reading the back-stories like this, it brings our treasures to life.

You and me both. Bought my first not too long ago and eyeing up a second, the antithesis of the rest of the shiny wrist jewellery I have.
