SV650, had a few of those and they're ace.
You can also pick up a cheap Daytona 675, one of my favourites to ride

I had a good experience with my Kawasaki Er6-F which I bought it as an upgrade for my Pegaso Strada.
Plenty of torque on the engine, enough power to get out of trouble but not so much power to get into crazy trouble. Newer design than the SV 650 and better reviews.
Also comes as a naked, so ER6N, Er6-F, newer versions called Z650 and Ninja 650.
