Whatever one may think about the adequacy of maintaining the institution of monarchy, I have a lot of respect for her life achievement. There were certainly times when I did not agree with her, but looking at her 70 years of service, she deserves respect.

Wishing her well for the final round.

Yes I'd expect by now she's already gone and an announcement imminent

Not a royalist at all, I see no place for monarchs in this age.

But it's very sad that an old lady nears the end of days. I wish her clear skies all the way, and all around her well.

My daughter has been told by a friend that she passed at 15.10. Could be rubbish but the friends dad does work in the Royalty and Specialist Protection unit.

A friend in the met told me similar but could still be speculation. Although he was supposed to finish at 2pm and has been told to stay in work.

Surely only a matter of time. If she has passed, I assume they’re waiting for the family to gather before releasing a statement, and I don’t think Harry’s there yet.
Whatever anybody’s opinion of the monarchy, she has served with dignity and certainly has my respect.

I have heard similar rumours through a colleague’s husband who works in the Home Office…

    The passing of an era.

    :-(

P.S. I see that the announcement confirms the FoaF gossip we saw above: That she died "this afternoon".

The BBC cut to the flag at half mast , then cut back to the studio. That lowly cameraman will have been given instructions earlier.

Working yesterday, passed today, what a trooper RIP

That moment when you hear Charles referred to as "the King" on the news for the first time.

A very sad day. Feeling much more emotional and strange that I’d have thought I’d feel. She’s been a wonderful part of our country and lives for ever. May she rest in peace.

    Long live our new King.
