    Cigar Advise

Are there any cigar smokers in here?
Looking for any advise on buying a box for a 60th birthday present for my brother in law.
Not a clue where to start?

I often (once a month) buy my cigars from this website, EGM cigars, which come from Switzerland.

    https://egmcigars.com/en-gb/collections/egm-cigars

I have only had good experiences with them and you can get a box of 25 of these highly reviewed Romeo Y Juliets for about £150 which I think is a great deal.

I am not sponsored and these aren't affiliate links etc, just trying to help

Cigars a quite a personal taste item, I say more so than wine & at least as much as Whiskey, if he’s a regular cigar smoker best to stick with is preferred brand & type.

Where are you located there might be a good cigar shop locally to you who can give some advice based on his preferences

The least hassle solution with guaranteed success is a gift token.

CGars (no prizes for the name) are online and also have branches throughout the UK. No affiliation. I'm sure there may be others.

Great place in Windsor, but a little far for you.

CGars offer a good service also.

Luckily all mine came from my trips to Cuba, the UK prices are mind blowing.

Good luck with the search! I am assuming they have a humidor already if you’re looking at a box?

My favourite of the non Cohibas is a Partagas Serie D No4. Lovely full bodied smoke.

Thank you for everyone's advise, it's a minefield!
A humidor box would be an extra present I'd need to get as well, I'll check out all the links.

Get the humidor first, get it all set up and up to the correct humidity for a week or so & then add the cigars, otherwise you will be using the moisture from the cigars and dry them out.

The cost of Cuban cigars has gone through the roof over the last 5 years or so. Partly due to a standardisation of prices around the world by Habanos SA, but also because of significant shortages of decent cigar rollers in Cuba, and increased distribution in Asia. As a result, Cuban cigars are now riduculously expensive (IMO), and even if you have the money, finding a supplier with any stock in the UK isn't easy. Standard production cigars that were available in any tobaconist 5 years ago are now rare, and limited editions are non-existant.

To give you an idea of the stupid pricing - I bought several boxes of Cohiba 1966 from Jerry's in Brugge when on holiday there 7 years ago. A box (containing 10 cigars) cost me €285 per box at the time. They are now selling at auction for over £4,000 a box (see https://www.onlinecigarauctions.com/index.php). They have become so expensive that I will be selling mine - I simply can't justify smoking a cigar when it's valued at £400+

It's not just the rarity though. Because of the huge price increases there are now so many fakes of Cuban cigars hitting the market (even some major online sellers have been shown to have fakes in their stock).

My advice would therefore be to avoid Cubans, and look instead to some cigars from places like Dominica. Some suggestions here = https://robbreport.com/food-drink/ci...-eg18-2814059/

Also have one of these humidors as a back up but use Boveda humidor packs.

It’s been quite a while but I would normally have gone for the Padron 1964 Torpedo Maduro, lovely smoke.
