Ice bucket or cooler, perhaps?
Evening all. This is a bit of an oddity causing me some problems, I've bought a load of antique silver in and this has got me stumped!
Elkington & Co, which is top quality and usually commands proper, proper money. Lots of their bigger pieces are silver plated, this is solid silver!
355 grams, hallmarked for Birmingham 1908.
It's a large pot with no handles or lid, and way too big to be part of a tea service anyway. Best guess is a plant-pot of some description, but I'm quite certain someone on here will know for sure and put me straight.
In need of a polish but it's been somebodies pride and joy, it has evidence of heavy polishing in the past (mind you it IS 114 years old).
This isn't a stealth sales post, it's definitely for sale if anyone wants it
Cheers all.
Ice bucket or cooler, perhaps?
______
Jim.
That's not a bad shout, I might offer that as a potential description for it. Cheers!
Biscuit barrel, though would have a lid.
Jelly mould ;)
Maybe a spittoon?
Witch's cauldron?

"Well they would say that ... wouldn't they!"
It looks like a cachepot - an ornamental holder for a flower pot.
No Really all that big. Could be a small ice bucket. I have a crystal one about the same size
Could be a biscuit barrel with a missing lid and bottom dish
DON
i'd also say small cachepot, if it was for ice it would be double walled and i dont think its a biscuit barrel with the flared rim.
Thanks all. I've put it up on ebay with the same terrible pics as here, I'll take some better ones shortly.
For the record I'm into this silver for about 80p a gram, so it stands me just shy of 300 quid if anyone here wants it.
Not my usual bag, I wanted the silver jewellery, not this big stuff.
