I turn 50 later this year and I'd like to buy myself a watch around the same age as I am.
It would be great to get something from 1972 specifically but I'm assuming (a) it's harder to exactly identify the year of manufacture for watches that old, and (b) I might have more choice if I expand my search to "around 1972", so I'm looking at 1970 - 74 ish I think.
Apart from that I have a budget of £3.5k and a liking for dive watches and chronos - I'm not really a dress watch kinda guy.
Thanks in advance for all suggestions
It shouldn't be too difficult to find a watch from your birth year. I know the following brands can quite easily be dated to 1972. I expect there's plenty more:
Omega
Seiko
Tissot
Rolex
Tudor
Brietling
Longines
Eterna

Pawel’s speedy is lovely…
Or a date just from that era can be found for not much more!

I’d have a look at Omega, plenty around and easy to date accurately.
Seiko and Omega are good shouts for brands that are easy to date. Military watches are equally easy to date and there is a lot of choice.

Can pick up a good example for around £2K and you would be wearing history on your wrist
