    Friday Watches - May 2022

After all of the hanky-panky in April, May seemed a little, well, staid. Only 584 watched were posted which worked out to a rather unimpressive average of 146. Rolex came top of the tree every week except for the 20th when Seiko narrowly pipped them to first place. Some records were broken, Weekly records included most Longines in a week for the year (five) and most Briston in a week ever (two). Tutima and Stowa recorded new monthly highs both reaching four in a month for the first time. Ulysse Nardin also hit a record monthly high of five.

The number of different brands represented in May sunk to a low of 119 of which thirteen were new to the year and only four were new to the Friday Thread. Amongst those returning to the thread this month included Vertex (both modern and vintage), Mr Jones and Revue Thommen. I might as well list all of the new arrivals, they were: Clebar, J and G, Lucien Rochat and Tressa.

Fortunately there were plenty of individual watches which brightened up an otherwise dull month. On the sixth we had the joy of two lovely Moser Pioneers courtesy of Hhhh and Yokel, we also saw Brownip's Omega 6BB and, always welcome, Mr. Curta's Eberhard Mareoscope (which would be very useful where I am at the moment). On the thirteenth we were treated to Eamon's Altair Chrono, lawman_nl's Sinn Euroflieger but, possibly the watch of the month was Gunner's malachite dailled Zenith. Tasty. A very close challenger to the that title arrived on the 20th in the form of Bootsy's Huer 501.503 in pewter PVD. Smashing. Finally, on the twenty seventh, two chronos stood out for me. Andyg156's Kurono and Verv's Dark Side of the Moon Speedmaster. Although me being so behind on the watch counts coupled with Verv's current rate of turnover means that I am not entirely sure if it is still in her possession.

That is enough of May's propriety, let's hope June is up for something a little more titillating.

Even the monthly swingometer is a little underwhelming.

So to try and liven things up I thought I would return to the worms to see how the first thirteen weeks of this year compare with those for the previous two years. Look out for some strange goings on such as IWC's regular peak at Week 4, Seiko's continuing pattern of peaks at Weeks 4 or 5 and 8 or 9. Perhaps strangest of all is Tudor and their achieving exactly the same numbers in 2021 and 2022 for six weeks on the trot. Anyway enjoy those, I am off to relieve this heat by making like Dory.

<gasp> Proof that it's all fixed and we're all just avatars in a simulation!

Thanks for yet another fascinating analysis. :-)

Thanks for collating, it’s always interesting to see the stats. I am always amazed at the relative lack of Citizen shown. I would have thought they would be more prevalent on the forum.
