    Rolex DIY project

    https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/a...ef7#lotDetails

This is another Rolex thread “ with a difference “ .
If Rolex are not your thing , then please do not waste your time by reading this , however this 5513 “ carcass you will not sold today , way above the projected “ auctioneers guesstimate” .
I would be interested from the experienced and more knowledgeable to learn , if this is really a project that can be realistically and economically restored .
Enjoy this listing for what it is , and thank you in anticipation .
    Stay sane and hydrated .

I'm not seeing any value there as a resto project, but if you had a stolen 5513 in need of a clean title...

Everything here depends on the condition of the movement and, surprisingly, from my experience of buying extremely battered stuff just like this from eBay, which is a guilty pleasure of mine, the condition of the dial suggests that the movement, if present, may well be in better shape than you’d think as there doesn’t seem to be much sign of water involvement. Look past the grime and the dial itself may well still be viable if cleaned carefully.

I’m not entirely sure what Rolex would say if you dropped this on them, but if the movement was viable…. The problem for more local repair is that sourcing spares would be both near impossible and bloody expensive. If it were me, I’d put it in a box, write myself an email with all the details and forget about it until, eventually, the parts I needed appeared on eBay at an appropriate price. I may have a few more boxes like than I would admit to my wife, but they would have cost one or two orders of magnitude less…

After being pulled apart by an idiot armed only with pliers. The same old story.

I bought a battered watch a week or two ago that was apparently a 'barn find'. A handy crossover from motorcycles.

Did you win it in the auction? Or just a passing interest?

Be a fascinating project for someone with the right skill sets, resources and a lot of patience.

I guess a metres first 5513 of that vintage would be many peoples grail
