I’d pitch it at 5k
Hi everyone,
Before I start, can I just say this isn’t a stealth sales post,I have access to sales corner and have sold many items on there. I’m contemplating selling my explorer 2 16570 2004 with solid end links. The watch is in fairly decent condition but comes box only and no papers. The money could come in handy for an upcoming house move and I want a rough idea of how much I should put it up for if I do post it. I haven’t bought or sold any watches for years so I’m very out of the loop regarding prices etc. Any help would be much appreciated

Its been said before Chrono 24 gives very misleading ( high ) expectations. Look at sold listing on ebay ( in search , go advanced , then tick sold box) . Alternatively look at grey dealers and knock £1500 to £2000 off. Certainly more than the £5 k. 30 mins of your research will save you both time and money.
Is it white or black dial? It does make a difference to the pricing.
The below might be of some help? But Ebay sold listings, as higham5 suggested, is really helpful

I would reckon around the 7k mark
Sorry I should have said,it’s a black dial Attachment 19646

The best way to sell your Explorer is by a trusted auction house.
I would recommend taking a look at this. You can check out what previous Explorers fetched.

The Seller receives the full price as the Buyer pays all charges.
Every day really is a school day...
...Think I've just found my new favourite website =)
Thanks Mick P - Just a bit shocked at what the sold values tell me my Explorer and Submariner are worth.I would recommend taking a look at this. You can check out what previous Explorers fetched.

Especially when compared to Chrono24 =)
C24: £14.6K
WC: £12.5K
I think this is about right for a private sale. There are a lot on dealers' websites at around the 8.5-10K mark but they seem to sit there forever. The Explorer II was never the most popular of watches so they need to be keenly priced to sell. Good luck with the sale.

Recently sold a Swiss only full set polar £8k.
For this model currently this is top dolla imo.

Getting it serviced by Rolex would probably help from a papers perspective too. Good luck with it!
You need to shift it soon, value is dropping £150+/week as the market slump gathers pace.
Now the middle classes feel the pinch: Even those who earn £50,000 and above admit they’re cutting back
To be honest it wasn't a desirable watch even after it was discontinued until the recent madness started. Assuming the madness cools off I'd imagine values will do likewise.
Horses for courses but feel that it sold for a fair price. 5k valuation is optimistic in the wrong direction imo.
