What is going on with auctions like this?

My previous Squadron had a Black Bay made up for them by Tudor and one ended up at auction recently...

I can't believe there was a genuine auction buyer of a Tudor Black Bay at £50,000 plus auction fees.

What is the general consensus for auctions like this....genuine buyer and prices have just gone silly, money laundering or something else?

I’m guessing it’s genuine. Only 32 watches produced and made by Tudor rather than someone just adding some cheap engraving afterwards. It’s commemorative rather than military issue, but someone must have wanted it.

Have any of those Tudor French Military issued watches been sold yet. Can’t remember what it’s called, something like FXD. The shop issue have 4 lines of text and the genuine MI watches only have 2. They will also attract silly money

I’m just not sure…there are literally thousands of military commissioned Breitlings and Tudors floating around all with runs of up to about 50 watches. The Sea King and Apache Rolexes were only going for £25k IIRC.

Fools and their money are easily parted.
Remember it takes at least 2 bidders to get to that price so more than one fool.

To my mind it's a nice thing to own for someone who actually served in the relevant squadron/battalion/RN clearance diver or whatever. All feels a bit "Walter Mitty" for anyone else. Imho of course.
