Calling Pixel 6 owners

I've just received a Pixel 6A and can't switch off the Google Assistant function. It's driving me nuts!!
When I want to switch off the phone power button on the side of the phone, it asks me to say something like, "Power Off" instead of seeing the red power button.
Any instruction would be helpful!
I've googled for answers but none seem to be helpful.

Thanks Wileeeeeey, that worked. I had the Pixel 4a and that switched off just with the power button. Do you have to use 2 buttons to power off or is that the norm?

No idea, sorry. I had every Pixel from the 2XL to the 6 Pro but the fingerprint sent me back to iPhone.

Sorted! You go to:-
1) Settings
2)System
3)Gestures
4) The last one in the list switches the Assistant off to enable the power switch to switch off.
