That’s an opening post I didn’t want to read.

Like most of us here, we are but names on a screen that will never meet but with regular posts those names become characters and yours has certainly shone through for the best.

I wish you all the luck going and please keep postings as long as you can.

    Hello Tom,

I am so sorry to read your sad news.

I too have enjoyed your posts, seen your collection and jealously admired it, as well as respecting your excellent taste in watches. In the Bear Pit you have been a beacon of light and reason from across the pond, in a time when darkness and utter stupidity seemed to triumph. As a history student of the Vietnam War, I have appreciated reading of your experiences there.

I wish you all the best for the future and so admire your positive outlook. Enjoy it all!

Jeez, so sorry to hear chap.

It's posts like yours that make me realize I worry about some petty things in life sometimes. Thank you for making me realize this. Time to start making a change.

I hope you prove them wrong for a long time to come.

You've definitely grabbed life by the danglies and really gone at it, so I have no doubt we'll be hearing your report back on your Hawaii experience!

I already reacted on then news a lot of postings up. But your initial posting set something in motion in my mind. In short: "if this happens to me, did I do what I want(ed) to do with my life / had to do in life?" That includes the obvious(...) bucket list, but also a other, more pressing things when it comes to personal contact with people I haven't spoken in years and/or with persons I need to speak to tie up loose ends.

How strange it may sound, for that (your posting and the sad message) I thank you.

I need to go out and contact people I've neglected. That's most important. My to-do bucket list is very short. In fact, I don't think that there's anything on it anymore. I don't have that 'Seeing Naples' urge. Knowing that, I want to keep the bucket list as short as possible. The other list is longer and needs work and perhaps will take more time than the two months you mentioned. In that case I'll carry on what I need to do.

PC. Very sorry to hear of your news. Not many of us get the opportunity to say our goodbyes and cherish the time we have left with our loved ones. I hope that you can carry on doing the things you enjoy, and that you are comfortable and not in any pain.

I’ve always enjoyed your contributions to the forum and I hope there are many more to come.

Go after it Menno! After I retired I started to do internet searches on people from my distant past (1950s to 1980s). I've met or talked on the phone with many of them, although I missed a couple by months due to their deaths. Each one was an amazing conversation.

Tom, Saddened to hear this my friend. Always enjoyed reading your posts, as they have been interesting, honest, and balanced. The story behind the Caravelle watch in Vietnam is a “classic post”. My thoughts are with you, your family, and friends.
