Down hill racing in Equador - Not yet commercialized by Red Bull...

... but I don't think it will take another year before it is!

    Good find!

I'd be the guy that crashed into the parked car about 20m in :-)

On a closed circuit and fully kitted up... I must admit I would love to give it a try

Looks like fun. But would be beaten by anyone on a decent road bike.

That looks like great fun, albeit quite dangerous potentially!

It appears that the road is closed off, so hopefully won’t meet traffic in the other direction.

Also, quite late on in the clip, the driver starts trying to run with the cart to make it increase speed, so presumably no engine on-board?

Till they turned off the main road, then it was quite rough in places going down to the town.

No engines on board hence the reference on the thread headline about Red Bull. (Red Bull soapbox race’s)

does that rocking forward and backwards actually do anything?

Looks brill but they are not as nutty as them ones on longboards posted on here a while back. They are proper nuts and they don't close the roads.

    Excellent

I cant decide, is it better if the cart is heavier or lighter?

Or mabye it makes no difference

Are you sure, they were topping out at 70mph in places and surely four wheels can corner quicker than a bike.

The etiquette is certainly better than F1.

Are we talking gravity movement only or peddling? Karts have no added propulsion except gravity

Also bear in mind the weight of the kart and two riders vs. a 15 pound carbon fiber bike and 160 pound? rider

As a mere amateur cyclist I hit 60mph freewheeling down Mount Teide.

Kart may have more mass but bike has less rolling resistance and in more aero.

Apologies must have missed that about “Red Bull soapbox races”, the topic/ headline I’m seeing on the OP is “Down hill racing in Equador - not yet commercialized by Red Bull”, didn’t see the “no engines on board” reference!

There are more vids of this sort of events. One one, a lorry pulls out from a driveway (or similar) onto the road and the soapbox needs to overtake it... Luckily, it all happened on a stretch of road where the speed was low.

Given some comments under the YT vids, it's easy to assume that they have 'classes: 4 wheel / 3 wheel, inflatable tyres / non-inflatables. All these classes are mentioned among the 'connaisseurs' in the comments.

I was wondering that and my understanding of physics says not (but see below). I'm sure it makes them feel better though. ;-)

The rocking back and forth won't increase net speed but it might, just might, help overcome rolling friction over rough/sticky ground. Maybe.

    And then there's this video:

    - single seater
    - trike
    - rigid wheels
    - 70km/hr without holding the steering handle bars....
