I was a club DJ for most of late 80s/90s so these have to be in the list:

I turned 15 in 1990, so as the 90s dawned I was getting heavily into music, drinking, clubs etc. So the 90s music has such a hold on me, and evokes so many happy memories. As a kid I loved 'indie' music and didn't really rate dance music/rap/electronic. Got really into Nirvana, Mudhoney (saw in ’91) and other grunge bands at this time too.
However, one of my first loves, 'Madchester' baggy or whatever you want to call it meant bands like Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, The Farm etc. were all influenced by the club/rave scene...so my tastes were being influenced by dance music anyway. Just listen to the full version of Fools Gold and try not to dance.
The textbook case is Primal Scream, a rock\indie band met Andrew Weatherall and his production resulted in Screamadelica. All of I sudden, I liked guitar music with all these other influences too. When I went to Uni in 93, I started hearing more by Chemical Brothers, Leftfield, Orbital. This was helped by the Chems remixing bands like Manic Street Preachers and having free tapes on the NME like the Xmas Dust Up. I was at Glasto in 94 when Orbital headlined and it blew me away. So I liked Indie and then these other dance music names who released some great albums too. I still say that the Sasha and Digweed Renaissance 1, is one of the best Mix compilations ever.
I also started listening to more conventional dance music at that time, house, handbag house and some of the 90s classic have been listed upthread. Waterfall is a tune that can't help to put a smile on your face. Started clubbing and latched on to this brave new world of DJs, and losing it in sweaty rooms in Brixton at 4am. Indie/guitar music lost much of it's appeal as I had found something new. Binary Finary - 1998 and Energy 52 - Cafe del Mar are examples of euphoric music that just make you want to dance.
I am posting this as it’s an example of how a club ‘feels’ during a breakdown. I showed it to my girlfriend who never liked dance music as to try and explain some of it.

I also got over my aversion to rap/hip-hop. Another by product of indie snobbery, and fell for Dre’s The Chronic and the first NWA LP.
Here’s the thing, I think it’s been noted that whatever music you heard growing up has a hold on you, and you consider it ‘the best’. With that said I think it was a genuinely great time, and transformative in terms of different styles coming together. And if you take a look at some albums that came out in one year...1991, then I think you can argue it’s one of the finest years ever?

Nope. Huge debate. I’m Airwave, Rank 1. 1999 so just makes it I think.
At their best, and for me that is the run of the first 3 LPs, Suede were untouchable. First LP all the great singles, second I loved as it just went somewhere different, really stretching themselves and leaving behind whatever Britpop was, and then Coming Up was just wall to wall bangers.
I lost interest after Bernard left as he was such a unique guitarist. Went to see them in Bradford around 1996ish when Richard joined and they were good but not amazing.
My wife always beats me here. She saw the original line up when she was still at school. She also went to Knebworth whereas I passed up the opportunity of a face value ticket the day before the Sunday, and thus missed John Squire in action too.

The 90s was my decade. Big fan the hardcore and gabber music of the Netherlands and the edm of Germany of that time.
