Personally, I prefer your choice of date under your name and as you're paying for it, it's your choice and a lovely choice of watch it is.
Dear TZ collective
8 months after ordering my 99.1M, I have received the proof for the movement engraving.
I appreciate this can devalue the watch, but it’s being built for me, I want something personal, and I don’t intend to sell it.
It’s just my initials and year of manufacture, so DR and 2022
The initial proof was all on one line thus:
I’ve asked for an alternative with the year below my initials:
I know it’s my choice, but as always, a TZ opinion would be helpful.
Cheers
Dave

I think you're right, looks better to my eyes with the year below your initials.
It’s your choice but the 2nd image would be my preference
It looks neater with the year below your initials.
Surely you need to engrave it as helidoc 2022?
If asked and given the choice, I would go with the second one. Initials with date underneath.
Just looks better in my opinion.
Cheers,
Ben

I think the second option is better.
Your initials are DR and you’re a doctor? Good one…
Second option for me.

Another option, if they would do this for you, is to have the year of manufacture engraved as one with the No 827 - so it would read: ‘No 827 - 2022’. That makes more logical sense (to me) as it’s clear then that the 2022 relates to the year of manufacture.
If you wanted you could then have just your initials in the other space, or your initials and a date special to you.
Just a thought…
Top version, one line.
F.T.F.A.
For me it would be the top version, one line.

I'm getting one too, and am engraving mine. I couldn't care less about residual value, as these are meant to be personal to you. Great choice of watch!
I prefer the top one btw.
Great responses all, but delighted if there are any more opinions
Thanks

For me - top, one liner just looks better to me. Lovely idea.
“ Ford... you're turning into a penguin. Stop it.” HHGTTG
I prefer the top one, the contours flow better with the rest of the engraving imo.
Top one for me, but then I might be tempted to shorten it to 22.
Top one for me, fits better with the curves of the movement.
1 of 2 for me - but with the end pulled up slightly to be in line with the circle above.
P.S. How about going with "Dr. DR 2022" ?
I'd have the 'DR' on its own centred on that area and leave the 2022 off. I think it would be neater. I'd also get a kick out of knowing that at some time in the future when I'm long gone, a bunch of people on the future version of a forum like this will be debating the year of manufacture.
if I decided to have both the letters and year, the font would have to match at the very least.
Option one me, flows better with the other engravings.
Another vote for one line. Flows better.
Best Regards - Peter
I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.
One line for me!

Thanks all
I’m tempted as suggested to go initials only, but will get another proof today, along with a single line with more congruent date font.
Cheers

I've kept mine for 12 years & I'll probably never sell, but just in case, I went minimalist

Do you mean not having the number in its current position adjacent to the balance wheel Tony?
On reflection about the font of 2022, it’s the same as the movement font. Having initially thought two lines, I do think a single line flows better from the movement number.

2 lines for me, date under initials. Fills the space better.
Thanks C, it does.
Pretty much an even split from the TZ massive, although I think the single line, with its imaginary curve tuning back to pass through the movement number is favourite. I’ve promised the Dornblüth team a response before close of business.

Single line for me. It looks more natural to me engraved on the radius.
Second option for me.
Well, I’ve made a choice
I’m sure I would be happy with either, but I’ve opted for single line, mainly as I think it fits with the curves of the 3/4 plate with movement number and wheels.
Thanks to everyone who shared their opinion, it was a pretty even split.
I wonder if that means the build is going to start, that’s ahead of schedule if it is.

The second option fills the available space better imo. I'd be thinking of other options as well.
Two lines looks better I think.
What about your initial and surname instead of two initials? If it truly is personal it would perhaps be even more so.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
I know you've already made your choice, and I agree. But I'd drop it down a couple of mm and and then a couple of mm to the right. Nicely centered then.
I think the curve of the single line suits the overall look of the movement better.

Breitling Cosmonaute 809 - What's not to like?
I pit my initials and my Sons initials on mine.
Value difference is minimal. They are worth 50 percent of purchase price.
Unless the date has personal significance for you, I'd skip it altogether and have the initials on their own.
