    Globe Trotter Luggage

    Afternoon All,

I am thinking of purchasing a new briefcase and am considering one of the Globe Trotter Attache cases. I was in London last week and briefly walked by the flagship store in the Burlington Arcade, but was distracted by the watch shops, so ran out of time to call in and handle one in person.

Has anyone got one, or another piece of their luggage? £1,500 isn't cheap so I am wanting to make sure I am not going to be disappointed.

FWIW I will be starting a new job next month working between three different sites, so need something to hold my laptop, papers, pen, sandwiches, keys etc. My current Mulberry briefcase is too small, and is made of leather, so want something larger with a solid construction.

Globe Trotter suitcases are fabulous as dear old Craig would say but there are lots of really good leather brief cases you can buy for a much lower price. Globe Trotter make brilliant suit cases because they specialise in them but there are much better value brief cases out there.

Google is your friend and I saw a good one in Oxford Market late last year for £395.

I would guess a walk around the usual streets, Selfridges or Liberty will bring up some good examples.

I already have a Mulberry, and as quite a lot of forum attention is devoted to luxury goods, I am not shopping at a particular price point as per quite a number of others here.

If anyone else has experience of Globe Trotter then I would be happy to hear your views!

I’d just bit a bit wary of them as they’re made of vulcanised fibreboard, which is essentially treated cardboard. If you checked it in and it got left on a runway in the rain for an extended period, I wouldn’t fancy what it’d end up looking like.

My experience with them is they’re great to look at but get knocked really easily and aren’t a hardy solution if you travel a lot. That was a wheelie case and I don’t have experience with their smaller ones though. If it’s a briefcase for the office it might be okay. Just expensive!

Globe Trotters are well known for being bash proof and there is some folk lore that BA will automatically buy a customer another Globe Trotter if a case is damaged in transit. I don't know if that is indeed the case (no pun intended) but it is a well known rumour.

Making a good valuable suitcase does not equate to a good valuable brief case. It seems a lot of money for what it is.

Recommending a brief case for anyone is a lost cause. Most of it is down to appearance based on leather thickness, buckles, fasteners and compartments.

All I am saying is that I once saw a better looking case in Oxford which must have been better than the Globe Trotter one. It certainly look durable as well as smart.

    Thanks everyone for the advice.

My wife is a big handbag collector and steered me towards a more sustainable alternative:

We came across the brand when we visited a handbag exhibition (what else!) at the V&A last year. They upcycle old London Fire Brigade hoses and various other materials. My attaché turned up today and fits my requirements nicely!

Lovely case at a sensible price. That is a nice choice.

Looks like a cheese sarnie fits comfortably as well :-)

Thank you. I think you might be right, but lunch out for the time being with the money I saved!
