Looking for a new knife and thought I'd ask on here as I know there's a few knowledge people regarding this kind of thing🙂 Have a budget of around £50, will be used at home, in the garden and when out in the woods/lakes with my dog. Want something that's quite easy to sharpen as I'm not very skilled in this (will just be run through my sharpener). Must be folding, can lock and blade length around 3".

I was going to recommend a Spyderco Delica (owned mine for 30 years). but retail is now $190US which is far from the $35 Canadian I paid for mine back then.
Another brand I like, but haven't bought (have enough knives) is Civivi Liner lock model

I find it hard to look past a simple Victorinox Swiss Army knife, especially if you get a thinner version like a waiter etc. it’s what I carry every day.
They are not as cool but they do the job, are easy to sharpen, and will last a life time.

Yeah, unless you're getting into knives, an Opinel (a No8-No10, I think) or a SAK would be the best. The Waiter is good, I prefer the Spartan, which is still small enough to fit on a keyring. Both are straightforward to sharpen.

This is my EDC. It’s so slim it can slide into a wallet. I believe it’s the thinnest SAK.

If you want to help someone with an rope entrapment a blunt nose blade is best.
I have a Byrd in my work kit. They lose their edge quite quickly but can be sharpened like a razor fairly easily.
Another vote for a SAK. I’ve carried the same Victorinox Pioneer daily for over 20 years. Couldn’t be without it.

You probably know this, but worth bearing in mind that in the unlikely event you every ran into bother with it, walking the dogs is unlikely to be considered good reason for carrying a locking blade in the UK.
HH has a great function where you can search specifically for UK legal EDC knives (then shop around for prices). Real Steel Luna is a good shout well within this price range IMO.
Apologies if this has already been pointed out, but if you're in the UK a locking blade is not legal for EDC.

You could put the remainder of the £50 towards a Lansky Turn Box. Great sharpening with minimum skill and effort required.

The standard Lansky rods are too thick to get into many serration designs - the Spyderco Sharpmaker with its triangle stones is better for this.
Not really, but this would, depending on tooth size (the conic rod). Serrated blades are a bit of a pig to sharpen as you need to do each serration individually.

Thanks guys, on another note, I've just ordered a knife from Myerchin who replied this morning requesting proof of age. I understand the need for raising these type of questions however having never bought this type of item online before is it ok to send copy of license as proof of age (I'm old school so not sure if this is a trustworthy method of confirming ID)
Normal procedure (I believe they are required by law). They probably have a list of acceptable proof, from passport scan to driving license or maybe credit card...

Some of the Opinels lock and others don’t, but it’s worth noting that the locking collar on an Opinel is easily removed in either case to make it UK EDC legal (assuming 3in or under of course)

I've had one for two years and I'm really happy with it. Very lightweight and useful. It's mainly been used to open Amazon parcels, but has also helped for bike repairs, putting a new picture in a picture frame, basic maintenance and electrical work, removing a bandage and putting a wing on an aircraft! I carry it almost everywhere.
Only downside is given it's small size it is easy to mislay.
A good friend runs the UK arm of Myerchin I’d have no problems sending my details across, they are based just down the road from me in sunny Dorset.

Have you found a million uses for an EDC knife. Its difficult to live without one in any sort of rural/countryside life.

Just bought 2nd knife, 1st was folding knife (very handy for general carry) and just added fixed blade for boat. Both extremely good quality and customer service was good :)
Decided to up the budget a bit (don't we always!) and go for a Real Steel Luna Stripe. I've always carried a knife, had an Opinel No8, Kershaw, Leatherman etc but recently have just been using my SAK Farmer. I live in Brigham (just outside of Cockermouth and about 20mins from Keswick) so normally can be found at Crummock, Loweswater, Ennerdale, Cogra Moss etc with the dog traipsing through the trees. It's being delivered tomorrow, hopefully it will live up to the hype👍

You're not wrong there mate😁 You were only a stones throw from me, Papcastle is one of my regular cycling routes.
Just arrived and I love it. Not the cheapest (and not the most expensive by far) but a great UK legal carry.
