This may be of interest to members here, The Jewellers shop Thurlow Champness in Bury St Edmunds is beginning their closing down sale from 10.00 am tomorrow.
I walked past there this lunchtime and took a couple of Q&D photos through the window.
Apparently there will be 40% discount on Big Brand products and 50% on lesser brands.
I noticed some Bremonts, Hamiltons, Mondaine, Longines and a couple of pre-owned Rolex Datejust 31's.
Anybody looking for diamond and gold jewellery could be in for some bargains, they seemed to have a fair bit of stock, though I couldn't see inside as the property was shut.
Good luck
Andy

I don't know the AD but it's always sad to see these businesses go under as that's people's livelihoods and blood and tears that's going with it too.
Very, very sad. I was only in there a couple of weeks ago to have my Anonimo changed from bracelet to canvas strap, too fiddly for me as strap bar is screwed on both lug sides. Always got a nice bag on pick-up 1/2 later.
Always put a tenner in the charity box as there was no charge.
Great little jeweller that will be missed.
Sad but I'm surprised they held on to AD status this long. I bought a rolex from them in 2016 I think and the shop was tired looking and not in the greatest location. Back then Rolex were taking back agencies from loads of similar shops. They had a good ride I think
They are closing down due to retirement.
^^^ This.
The son does not want to take on the business.

I don't think Mr Salt used to ever come in. I think a more accurate description would be he couldn't sell the business, especially after losing the Rolex AD status so he's selling a load of sale or return jewellery at low prices but probably still making a decent margin. After a few weeks of this and once the hype does down, the business will be wound up.
See Upchurch in Colchester and Salloways in Lichfield for similar stories.
I think Salloways was a retirement too, although I'm not sure if it was "forced" due to losing the AD status? Would love to know more though.
The premises are now owned by City Jewellers (*) who do sell actually sell Rolex (amongst other things), but all just pre owned unfortunately. It's a shame we don't have a Rolex AD in the city anymore.
(* - above City Jewellers is now a Michelin restaurant, called Upstairs)
