Critique my core 8 watch collection

    Hello fellow Wis

How does this look from an outsiders point of view?

Do you think that it is a fairly good collection covering most bases and genres...anything I should maybe consider adding or removing?

These are my core watches excluding G shocks beaters and sentimental watches.

Any thoughts appreciated good or bad.

Don't think I need that particular complication but understand why you suggested it.

I like to have at least one dress watch, ideally a nice little vintage gold for special occasions. But of course that may not be your thing.

Maybe a dial of colour could be fun to add, something like a Doxa.

    Nice collection.

Looks like a great collection and all that matters is if you are happy with it.

Don’t worry about what others think.

    Nice.

The white-dialled Seiko needs to be on a posher strap (appears to be a NATO in the pic) - nice bit of tan croc or teju should do it.

Otherwise, that is very much a collection I could live with. Indeed, 25% of it I do live with, and one of them (DC57) would be my "If you had to pick just one watch..." choice.

Maybe add something in bronze or gold?

I agree a dress watch might round this out somewhat. And I’d say that perhaps over time you might take it in a more personal direction - each of these watches is very nice, but in the round they don’t really tell us much about you, as any considered collection ought.

I kind of have those covered in the beater/sentimental side of things.

Looks good, although i'd swap out the black dialed seiko for a turtle.

Personally I like to have some variety in strap colour to match shoes/belt - could easily put one of the existing (probably the white faced seioko) on a nice brown croc strap?

Could also up the diversity on movements - maybe a tuning fork or spring drive?

Nice collection, particularly the two Sinn's & the DC57

Stating the obvious, a sports Rolex would make a nice addition.

Thanks yes the Germans are really nice and probably those 3 and the speedy would be the keepers in any reduction programme.

Not really a big Rolex fan even if I could afford one lol

You're missing a selection of Richard Arbis asymetrics, and Gerald Genta stuff.
I don't see any hummers. Your collection is missing (at least) one watch from each decade since people started wearing watches. You've yet to collect one watch manufacturer per letter of the alphabet (e.g. Accurist, Bulova, Cartier...).
Of course all of ^^ that ^^^ is bull. If you're happy, that's all that matters. It's your collection and (IMHO) no-one else's opinion should matter to you.

This ^^^^ but personally nothing there makes me go 'wow'.

None of us need any of these things!

Seriously though, it's a great collection, but since you asked...

There's a bit of overlap in there I think. For example, is there an occasion where you would wear the Hamilton but not wear the Seiko? Or when you would wear the Flieger but not the Sinn? I'm not sure I'd ever wear the Seiko diver if I had the speedy in my collection either.

I think you could afford to lose one or two but replace them with a bit of variety. Maybe a different coloured face (you only have black or white), get yourself at least one blue and maybe something a bit leftfield like a green or orange seiko. Maybe switch out the straps a bit. Or get a different metal if you can afford it.

Keep the Speedmaster and the U1. The other 6 are all very similar so I would sell all 6 and consodlidate into 1 new watch.

Some great insights into other people's thoughts...really interesting.

I agree there is overlap but I think that might be just my mind wanders towards those styles.

Agree I think the u1 and speedy make great companions.
