Appreciate the heads up on this one.
So is this the watch porn I’ve been hearing about!?
Who actually buys things like this ?

Appreciate the heads up on this one.
Bizarrely, given what most of us know them for nowadays, 'spicy' pocket-watches used to be a Doxa speciality - many of them are hilarious.
That is haunting!

That’s truly horrific!

If I had a need / want for a dress watch / repeater one of these would be top of the list.
Wonderfully poor taste.
Haven't both PP and JLC done watches like this.
Given the above, is Ulysse a decent brand in general?
Yes, I would say so
Their designs are either love or hate but the quality is up there with JLC etc.
They tend to loose a fair bit on the used market because of the polarising designs but they offer real ‘value for money’ used. (if there is such a thing in this hobby)
The 42mm divers watch is lovely.

My absolute favourite marque. Some serious bargains out there 2nd hand and if you buy savvy they can even make you a few quid.
I have a dual time with the el toro style dial. Which I fell in love with when I saw one for sale here. Earlier this year I added a titanium maxi marine diver with rubber and ceramic strap, time and gems were ceasing to stock them so the deal I got was insanely good. Quality of both is amazing, if you enjoy the slightly quirky styling I’d highly recommend them.
As for the erotic dials, they have a long history and may not be that relevant any longer but it’s good to see a connection with history.
One of the many horological purchases I’d make if money was no object would be a full set of UNs Manara art dials and have a display cabinet made to show them off in my home office.
Yep…
Amazing watches.

The Marine Divers are everything I think I would dislike in a watch (sub seconds on a diver, fussy dial, power reserve, fussy bezel insert, strange strap) however I love the look at them in the metal. The Ti one is very smart. I tried one on in Athens Airport a year or so ago. It was very tempting.
I am a fan of this one

the more pertinent question should be "why wouldn't someone buy a watch like this?". It's well made and a really nice design. I'd own one if I could afford it.
as a nation, we're remarkably prude about something that most of us have either done, or would like to be doing on a regular basis.
A San Marco is next on my list, however it will probably be 2024 as I have commitred to no watch purchases this year.
I’ve never actually owned a watch from this brand but I’m sure the day will come given the right deal that I’ll be sporting one on my wrist. I don’t know if they still exist but a few years ago there was a shop in Bicester Village selling them at heavily discounted prices. Maybe it’s time I went back and had another look !!!

That would be Time and Gems. Unfortunately they are Kering Groups outlet and no longer stock Ulysse Nardin as they were sold by Kering back to management about a year ago.
Sad as I always liked a bit of a nosey in there at the UN and GP watches. Happy as the last time I visited I picked up my TI / ceramic marine diver for a ridiculously good price as they were just trying to get rid of stock rather than send it back.
Now it’s either mail order or a trip to that London to find any in the flesh. I think Manchester may have somewhere if you’re up northish.
Arrived today, the result of my consolidation excercise.
Strap is a bit stiff at the moment but so comfortable on the wrist.
Loving it

The Marine Chronometers look really good value on the used market. Sporty and classy, vintage hints with a great history.
I believe they started using in house movements around 2013?
I saw a cracking UN deck clock recently.

No idea what I'd do with it but very cool.
I like the UN Marine watches (the ones that Timefactors used as a design basis for the Sewills pair)- but otherwise, feel they are a bit fussy/quirky for my tastes.
When Blancpain invited me to Switzerland for a manufacture visit we were allowed into the "secret room", where a watchmaker (female) was engraving a woman being spit-roast on the case back. Special commissions like this were apparently a regular occurence, believe it or not.
Not sure if this has been posted before but it's an interesting read.
