Beat his wife so hard that he broke her back and ribs, and lacerated her spleen. Nice fella.

    I’ll go with that summary.

Certainly wasn’t the founder of the hells angels that’s for sure. What he did do is turn super cool outlaw culture into evil organised crime and ruin a lot of peoples lives in doing so.

Responsible for growing from a bunch of guys in California interested in motorcycles, getting drunk and fighting into a worldwide organisation. Could probably only have happened in the USA.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

Aha, that’s why I recognised the name, seem to remember a book about a Brit who went out to spend time with them so they would allow him to start a chapter in the UK.

For some strange reason a lot of honest people tend to admire thugs such as the Krays and Barger. There is no logic to it but it happens.

And mafia, just look at the Sopranos. Ultimately it’s a series about an obese scumbag

Also, I read Hunter S Thomson’s Hells Angels years ago. I’m sure he had stories on Barger but I can’t remember them. I don’t think he was organised crime at that point.

I could be misremembering but I seem to recall Thompson attempted to step in and prevent an Angel disciplining his own girlfriend, this didn´t go down well and several other gang members immediately joined in to stomp HST...Barger interceded, possibly saving Thompsons life and that was the end of HST´s time with club researching his book.

Quite an impressive innings for Barger given the life he lead.

The balls on HST though, legend, RIP.
