    Rolex Airking 3 6 9 dial ebay

Spotted this today, any thoughts? I had to google a bit as it's a 3 6 9 with superlative chronometer text, seems like it's a rare version. Wonder what the bids will reach on it?
Is this authenticity guaranteed decent, I wonder how good the appraisers are? Certainly makes me feel more confident buying an expensive watch off ebay if it's been independently checked.

If the price was right and it was proven to be all genuine by someone other than e bay it could be a cool watch. No movement shots is a bit of a worry.

A 1016 is my ultimate watch but prices are out of my reach. Something like this could be a good stop gap until that bubble eventually bursts ha ha. ..

This is my 1016 until I can afford a real one.

Yes it's pretty much identical to a 1016 and would be a good stop gap you could sell for more later on.

Your Caravelle looks the part pretty well though!

It does seems suspiciously clean for a 1969 watch to me, case looks sharp as if its not been polished dial is immaculate etc etc, the fakes and frankens of these watches are very good so still risky even with external appraisal.

You have to be careful with 5500 Explorers as there are a lot of fakes out there.

Indices look incredibly fresh for 53 years old. Maybe been a safe queen for a while?

So it’s an AirKing 5500 which has had a Explorer dial fitted at some point.

I don't think so, this is what I dug up on the interweb

"Furthermore, depending on the model and movement inside the watch, the Air-King dial can have “Precision,” “Super Precision,” or “Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified” on the bottom portion of the dial."

It's just a very rare version of the dial or rarer. Though they could be referencing the later models which have this text at the bottom. They don't specify which years or models in the article.

"Edited" Actually I think you are right, these words don't seem to appear on the Air king until much later

1016 is a larger size watch and yes ref 5500 can be a minefield.

Here is a 5500 Explorer that I picked up off eBay around 8 years ago.

I think I paid around £1,300.00 for it.

The dial on the 5500 listed on eBay is NOT correct and the watch should be avoided.

Senraw, do you have any close-ups of the dial of this watch?

    Thankyou,
    H

You must be a tad nervous now!

Hopefully you'll get the all clear, great looking Explorer.
