    Dennison id please

A good mate brought a very old 9kt Dennison for me to look at tonight, it has a Swiss hand wind movement inscribed US.PAT.24.MAY.1904 the case opens like a pocket watch but its a wrist watch, the gold case is hallmarked with an anchor for Birmingham .375 E 9 ALD I do have some pics I will put up tomorrow when I finish work, but does anyone know if its worth anything or just scrap gold, the movement needs a full rebuild and service.

I'm sure unless the movement is anything special its worth is as scrap.

    Sad but true.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

He does have the missing parts apart from the crown.

I did tell him to expect a gold scrap value as I think the movement is nothing special, thanks for the reply.

The E date letter indicates hallmarking sometime between July 1929 and June 1930. That aside, I agree it does look too far gone and too anonymous to have any value above scrap gold. Which is of course a shame.

The dial is in near immaculate condition with a sub second hand at 6 it looks to be MIL but being no expert I have no idea.

David Boettcher's excellent site has a little bit of info on the movement markings:

    https://www.vintagewatchstraps.com/movements.php

    and also a discussion here:

    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

Why no photo of it after taking the trouble to show movement/case?

    ^^^ That's very nice.

Would be very sad to scrap the case.

Personally I'd be tempted to get it working (even if it needed a donor movement).

The ultimate cost would probably be greater than scrap value but worth it for me.

He hasn't said what he is doing with it yet but I think, because he asked me to find out about it, it may be going up for sale, if it does I will ask if he wants me to pop it in sales corner, it may get a new lease of life here rather than see the bottom of a smelting pot on ebay.
