I was expecting the loss, but handing it to Chelsea on plate is not good. I think TT is right when he says Chelsea aren’t ready for the season. Spurs and Arsenal off to good starts, going to be tough for Chelsea to finish in the top 4 this season.

Problem is the obvious replacement Ramsdale is also prone to moments of lunacy. All this means that the defence is always on edge.

What is striking is just how good the Brazilian keepers at City and Liverpool are. Wasn't so long ago that Brazilian keepers were the one weak point in the side.

Have to say we were superb today, and that was without any of our new boys on the pitch. We have a strong bench now too, which was a real weakness last season.

Haven't seen the highlights yet but heard that Spurs could have had 10 goals today. Scoring 4 without Kane or Son scoring is encouraging as well.

As an aside what happened to Dele Alli? He was an England darling, now he can't even get into an injury-hit Everton team?

Meanwhile, in other news, a nice 2-0 win for the Toon in front of a full house at St James. It's refreshing to be rid of Ashley and Bruce at the start of a brand new season. A stark difference to this time last year.

I think they'll do well this year, exciting team to watch at the end of last season

We carried that over today, very entertaining to watch. However, we do need another striker.

Another side that should have scored a hatful. Assuming Wilson gets injured they'd need a good striker and they are a good shout for top 6 or even higher.

Alli was on the bench with kids yet to make their debut. The guy is finished and a terrible signing for Everton. I wouldn’t employ the guy to take the bins out on a Thursday.

Given that you’ve not paid anything for him, I wouldn’t lose too much sleep.

Yes, I understand the nature of the financial arrangements. My point is that no money has changed hands as yet, and very little may. It's a low risk deal from Everton's perspective and, if Lampard is confident he can reignite Deli's career, it's a very good one.

Beyond appalling. Sure the new manager would love nothing more than Ronaldo winning United the match from this position after not starting him.

Certainly no fear factor going to Old Trafford these days, most teams probably think they will come away with a result.

Well the Seagulls do what they do best and dump on MU and denied an obvious pen the referee was poor.
Looking forward to Keane’s full time thoughts.

Just shows 1st game of season is a lottery. Some people were ragging on Chelsea for their performance yesterday - any away win is good and particularly so on the 1st day.

Let's see what City can do at West Ham

It's like they learned nothing from Citys building phase, where they spent loads of cash on people that were great on paper but had no synergy.

    Bunch of mercenaries.

City didn’t get into second gear… West Ham were woeful in so many areas, couldn’t even field 2 fit CBs! Soucek and Bowen were really poor, Antonio and Fabs off injured. Not a good day.

Admittedly it would be nice to in a position to bring on Mahrez, Alvarez, Silva and Kalvin Philips on as subs though.

    Meh ! 37 points to safety .
I thought City were sloppy in parts today . KDB and Gundogan weren’t fully firing but still contributed .
Haaland wasn’t great but scored a couple . Many more to come from this fella .
I thought our outstanding players were Rodri, Cancelo and Jack .
Alvarez will be the standout buy this season .
West Ham were also undercooked today and will pose more of a threat as the season expands .

    Is it only me... ?

There seemed to be a reluctance to shoot from the City players both today & in the Community Shield game.
Many of City's midfielders seemed to defer to Haaland, maybe trying too hard to get the ball to him ?
Which is understandable given his record
... but in previous seasons (without a number 9) they would have taken the shot - or recycled to another attacking midfielder.

It didn't end badly for City today, but I think as they get more accustomed to each other as a team their understanding will improve
... which bodes well for City.

Happened to Everton in the mid 80s. In 84/85 when we won the league most of the midfield and all the forwards had a double figure goal tally. The following season we signed Gary Lineker and the way of playing changed. It was get the ball to Gary. Sure, he scored 40 goals that season, but the contributions from elsewhere totally dried up. I still blame him to this day for costing us the league. He left after one season and the team returned back to the earlier way and we won the league again.

Chelsea last season with Lakaku, United with Ronaldo, sometimes a main man can have a negative effect on a team.

    Premier League 2022 - 23

Poor showing from Liverpool, wasn’t expecting that from the performance in the charity game. If we had another 10 mins we might have nicked the the three points.

All credit to Fulham, a fine account of themselves for the first game back.

We need some fit midfielders, I worry about this season if we have any more injuries in that area.

Sadio is a great loss to the Prem, they should have done more to keep him.

Haaland looks the real deal, comedy interview too.

Bloody premiership football.... what a disgrace to football.

    Will there be diving?
Will there be pretend life changing injuries that last 20 seconds?
Will there be a kick on the shin that results in the player holding their head in agony?
Will there be mobbing of the referee by enraged, entitled, millionaire players?
Will there be corruption amongst the 'managements'?
Will there be fighting amongst those that are supposed to 'supporters' but their very actions bring the club and it's name into disrepute? (Champions League final par example).

It is time the whole lot were cleansed from society.

Now, the women, they have shown the real spirit of the game and how it should be played. Time for the men to buck their ideas up.

Great to be back at WHL Saturday, we look like we could have a great season. Scored 4 without Kane and Son scoring. Wow.

Place was rocking even at 1-0 down, we didn't panic like we used to do, Kulusevski , what a player.

    Roll on Sunday.

Great to have the footy back - always get a few surprises opening weekend - Fulham and Bournemouth the stand outs for me

De ja vu for United not that Im surprised given the investment and the lack of backing the manager has had - problems were there last season and not been addressed so looks like another long year ahead :(
No striker, cm as bad as youll find ion the prem and has been for a long time - how Ronaldo is apportioned any blame is laughable - the goat and no wonder he wants out so would I!!!!!!!!

Credit to Brighton fully deserved the win

Thoughtr both Nunez and Haaland look sharp and will score bags of goals

I thought barring a couple of injuries we had a really good side but against Man City it was men against boys. Haaland is a monster.

That said when Antonio went off injured and they brought on new boy Scamacca he looked very handy and had a good attempt on goal.

Thank Gawd that's over and we can get on with the rest of the season.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

I saw City’s performance in the Charity Shield and thought yesterday would be tough. West Ham pressed really well for a while but City were far better than last week, albeit a bit sloppy at times. For such a big guy Haaland’s pace is frightening
