    If I ever buy anything from Currys ever again shoot me

    I ordered a laptop on line over a week ago (they didn't have one in stock in the store after showing me the demo one)

    I hasn't turned up, I now have had an email saying it will be delivered to Homebase and a text saying it will be delivered to a currys store, then I made the mistake of phoning customer services,

    Surprised it’s taken you so long I arrived at same conclusion 20 years ago. Horrible retailer.

    Absolutely terrible company to deal with, honestly don’t know how they are still in business.

    I bought a Dyson from them years and years ago, got it home turned it on, dead outta of the box. Took it back straight away to be told ‘we’ll have to send it off for repair’ It took ages to sort it, even with the store manager involved, still arguing that they wanted to send it away for repair, joke of a company.

    My advice would be to get a refund, if you’re having this much trouble just ordering it, imagine if something went wrong with it…….. If John Lewis stock the model you want buy from them.

    Same here but with amazon, someone got into my account and spent a load of my money sending stuff to a self service locker about 200 miles away from my address, in some bogus name. They got clean away with it and Amazon denied that it ever happened, basically claiming i had done it lol.

    I'm not sure anyone is any better than anyone else.

    We bought a camera from John Lewis and it broke down within the extended warranty period.

    First off they didn't want to repair it, saying it wasn't covered.

    Eventually, they had to agree it was, but then LOST the camera and took about 3 months to agree that was their responsibility!

    In the end, they did provide a refund, but it wasn't a pleasant or enjoyable experience at all.

    I’m surprised at that, never had a problem with JL, any issues I’ve had have always been dealt with quickly and professionally. I know who I’d rather give my money too though. Anything Audio Visual I only ever buy from either JL or Richer Sounds, White Goods are always purchased from JL, in my experience they can’t be beaten with their Customer Service.

    I suppose no company is perfect, sounds like you had a right palaver with your camera.

    Think it's all a bit of a lottery these days.

    I was under the impression that JL outsourced their CS a while ago and it's now rubbish.

    I bought and collected a dishwasher from Currys last year, same day. They put it in the car for me too as contactless collection.

    Several weeks before JL could get anything in stock and several days before AO could get me sorted. And cheaper.

    My son feels the same; bought an American fridge/freezer online which broke within a year, the non-plumbed water/ice dispenser (the main reason for buying it) stopped working. Multiple repair visits over several months by Third Party company failed to provide any rectification. Final solution was a whole new freezer side door, when would that be ? “no idea none available Worldwide” ! So only solution pay a lot more to replace with the nearest new model but with the agreement they could keep the old one as no use to Curry’s as unrepairable (Son going to put it in garage to use as a drinks fridge). All this agreed in-store with Manger and Salesperson. On delivery of new item surprise, surprise the Driver wants to take the old one away to which our Son says no your Manager agreed I could keep it. Went back to store to discuss it with the Manager who denies ever agreeing to it but our Son called the Salesman over and said do you remember what we agreed and he confirmed our Sons side of the story the Manager went mental apparently calling both our Son and his own Salesman liars ! Anyway it’s been about 6 months now every so often a van arrives to collect it but our Son just says NO

    They are beyond bad at times

    About 4 years ago I was looking to upgrade our TV. Always had panasonic and the local branch had the 55" model in I wanted. Ordered online, goes down and collects. The box was damaged in one corner, nothing major but I queried it with the assistant, he said it would be fine...... Got it home and the screen was in a million pieces. Called up the store, spoke to someone who said pop back the next day as they were about to close. Anyone who knows me will know I'm very careful with everything I own but clearly they didn't know me from Adam.

    So I explained the events, how my son had helped me from the car to the house, how I unpacked it etc. The manager came over saying I was at fault etc. At this point I started losing the plot and spotted the guy who served me and recalled our conversation about the slight damage. Collared him and said about our chat regarding damage to the box, he confirmed and they agreed to refund me and replace with a different make as no more stock was available.

    Agreed to an LG, they got it from off the shop floor in the aisles by all the TV's on display. Yet again the box was damaged so I demanded they inspect it, the manager was saying I was being ridiculous. Imagine my joy when they pulled it out and it looked like a toddler had been sat on the bloody thing!! So off they go and get another one which it transpired was absolutely undamaged. Lesson learned, always check anything before leaving the store ;-)

    In all fairness there aren't that many options on the high street and they know it. You've got JL, Argos, Currys, Online, Richer sounds and independents. Not exactly flooded with choice and most normal people won't go near an independent audio visual specialist as they will be put off by the experience. I subsequently have used Richer sounds as they give good advice and have good prices.

    I think this is right. Be careful everywhere, I guess. And the old corollary of people who have a bad experience are ten times more likely to pass that experience on than those who had a good experience.

    I've bought three big-ticket items from Currys this last year (coffee machine, fridge-freezer and an XBox X) and all have been fine so far (touch wood, etc.) YMMV.

    During the last four years I have bought two Dysons an American fridge freezer and a desk top PC from Currys and I have had no problems at all with the appliances or the company, I guess its down to luck at times ?

    No.
    The fact you had no problem is down to the manufacturers.
    A retailer comes into its own when things go bad, for whatever reason (i.e. within guarantee or outside). This is where you see how helpful or not they are, and how they fight on your behalf with the manufacturer.

    They have there uses, they were the only company that would come out on an Easter Saturday when a tenants oven went belly up the day before Good Friday.

    Delivered, installed, certificate issued and old one taken away and done exactly when they said they would.

    All retailers drop the ball sometimes, I’ve had ropey service a well as excellent from just about all of them over the years.

    Bought last TV there, but IRC - you only find out that it is not in stock.......... when you have ordered it!

    Okay for walking in and purchasing from stock , and at least is a local presence and employer.

    My daughter had a new laptop from Currys when she started Uni, made a terrible sound from new. Customer service via the shop was not good, refused a refund, told her to do a software update (made no change to fault), said they would have to send away for repair with 8 week turnaround, the list went on.
    After a few phone calls we went to another store, couldn't have been better, took her laptop and replaced with another, checked it was ok in shop before leaving. When we mentioned the problems with the first store the staff agreed it was rubbish there and that they had refused to work at that store.

    I thought it was handy having a bricks and mortar place like Currys as I really needed a monitor cable urgently, so went to my local one. Me and a queue of others were left to wait in front of the tills whilst all the staff were either talking to customers in the aisles (I guess they're potential sales and we were deemed guaranteed sales so they concentrated on the potential?) or the staff were standing at the tills seemingly processing returns. I waited for 20 minutes and no one in the queue was being served, so I left and ordered from Amazon Prime Now! Got the cable within two hours and it was cheaper too.

    I noticed there was a tiny scratch on the back of the chassis (No idea how that got there). I asked for more 'consideration'.. He was properly fed up by now
    so I offered to take a new Playstation game off the rack and clear off. He agreed so I ended up with a better VCR and a £50 game.

    As he checked me out I said... 'you realise it would have been easier all-round if you had agreed to what I asked when I first
    returned the VCR?'. He looked like he was chewing a wasp.

    I've never returned.

    Why after it had been repaired did you decide to damage it? Doesn’t make much sense to me?

    Curry’s were bad even when they were in competition with Comet, when Comet folded and left the playing field a lot clearer, Curry’s customer service got even worse!

    Probably one of the best examples as to why bricks and mortar retailing is down the toilet.

    Went to buy a laptop that was needed quickly and paid for it on company card requesting a VAT receipt. Was told they couldn't supply one unless I opened a business account.

    A friend ordered a dual fuel range cooker - needless to say they delivered a gas only appliance- it took a month to get it changed

    Touch wood, last few purchases for our house were from Currys, 2 TVs, a washing machine and just recently a cooker and had no issues whatsoever.

    Not needed to contact CS but the TV in my youngest sons room had a scratch on it, contacted Currys to make them aware and they offered a replacement or £50 refund, my son took the refund option as the TV had been mounted to the wall before he noticed. It took roughly 6 months to get the refund with him chasing them every month.
