DAB in car adapter

Found myself a decent 2011 Honda CRV (see previous thread) but I like my DAB radio.

An in car adapter should do it as the original unit has sat nav, reversing camera, phone etc so I don't want a complete replacement.

Are the adapters easy to fit or should I get Halfords to do it?

Alpine/ pure highway ones are pretty good
It really depends on you abilities - ever fitted in car radio before?
If your care has aux in its pretty simple
Obviously you’ll need a dab aerial attached to maybe the windscreen
I replaced the whole unit in my fiesta for one with dab and nav - slightly more complicated but there were a few guides
I presume you car definitely doesn’t have dab- maybe the dab aerial is somewhere hidden - mine was

I have a Golf mk5 with standard CD but no Bluetooth to connect my phone. I visited Halfords who said I cannot add an auxiliary adapter with 3.5mm jack and I should buy a new stereo.

I contacted a local fitter who confirmed what is needed and he will fit it in. All done professionally and approx £90 all in.

Halfords can be a hit and miss. I would advise contacting a local fitter.

Or if you can connect your phone you could use an app like Tune In to play the stations you want.
My car doesn’t have DAB but I can connect my phone and can get pretty much any station that way.

I do the same, mostly BBC sounds using Bluetooth.

I would also avoid the unskilled, barely trained yoot in Halfords.

Find your local, independent car hi-fi specialist. They will sort you out.

I've fitted the original Alpine Ezi-DAB into a couple of cars and it has been brilliant. Neat installation with everything hidden away



Made by Pure -same as the Highway 300Di but with selectable illumination colours (so I could almost match to the Skoda green rather than Pure's orange). I'm sure the later Pure units (or Alpine equivalent https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114253910...gAAOSwN1Ne32lJ) are just as good.

Smaller, plug in DAB options may be ok in some areas, but DAB does seem to be very sensitive to signal strength so for me a proper wired in solution does work best.

However... an alternative that might be worth considering, especially as mobile contracts with big data plans are quite common these days, is simply streaming channels from a phone. Worth looking at this regarding data usage https://www.coolsmartphone.com/2020/...eally-consume/

My local independent has said they don't do DAB modules and would replace the whole unit with a new Pioneer system cost £680
