    Ebay scam?

I think someone is attempting to scam me on ebay.
I sold an item Sunday night, posted it second class signed for Monday morning. Tuesday morning I get a message from the buyer with the screenshot below saying that he had received this message from Royal Mail regarding a failed delivery attempt and a charge being asked to reattempt delivery. He asked me to please sort it out my end.
I explained it is a scam, Royal Mail don't charge for redelivery, it wouldn't have arrived so soon, they wouldn't have his phone number anyway, and the link in the message comes up as a scam on Google. He thanked me.
The tracking showed it arrived yesterday.
Then last night I receive a message from a different ebay account where the user claims to have bought this item on his brothers account and he believes it may be fake. I explained its not fake, I bought it direct from an authorised stockist, and I do not sell fakes anyway. I asked why does he think it is fake? I also stated that any future correspondence on the matter needs to come from the account used to purchase the item. No response from either account yet.
Things are not adding up obviously. I assume if it is a scam the original attempt was to get me to contact the link in the screenshot and get fleeced that way. The second part with the supposed brothers account I'm not so sure about, but seems just as fishy. As an aside the purchaser is a gentleman whose name is common in a country that is synonymous with scams.
Any ideas on what the game is would be welcome.

    Don't engage with them.

You may wish to inform ebay that this buyer has tried to scam you just in case he tries something when the item does arrive.

I'd say scam, and the second guy prob has your buyer's details from something he has sold him in the past (or bought from him).

Apart from my replies quoted above I haven't, but good idea thanks, also regarding contacting ebay. I will do this. I have also changed my password just in case.

I don't actually knows if he has the original buyers details or not, he could have just messaged me via the ended item page but I don't know what his scam could be in that case, other than trying to get me to send money in recompense for his claim of the item being fake (which has hasn't asked for yet, and I wouldn't anyway, naturally). This of course would mean I have two potential unrelated scammers on the same item, possible but highly unlikely, so I assume both accounts are the same guy or him and an accomplice.

If it is an accomplice, I’d now be wary of any return/refund request… May well receive a fake item in return.

Indeed, but the request must come from the original purchaser for obvious reasons, not the 2nd scammer/accomplice.
If they do claim its fake and open a return request I have no real option but to comply as I believe ebay always sides with the buyer in these cases. If this does happen and a fake item comes back I will fight it and not refund unless ebay forces me to.

If the address you posted to is the one linked to the buyer's account, and the tracking on ebay says Delivered, then that's all you need to know. Presumably you have the funds?

If it's a scam, it's not a very good one.

I don't think there is an issue there, the tracking on ebay itself shows signed and delivered also, on this at least they always side with the seller. Also, I wouldn't have posted it without the funds, and so far, there is no issue there. Fingers and toes crossed.

The domain in you screen grab was only registered last month, it does resolve to a website with a copyright stamp of 2021 on it... not got time to look into it further, 100% scam though.

That's very thorough, thank you. Yes, definitely a scam.
Radio silence since from the miscreants so fingers crossed they know they'll get no joy from me with their current approach. A spurious non-genuine item claim is hopefully the worst they can do now.

Simon also tried to deliver a parcel to me on the 10th of May. I just ignored it, as unlike your buyer I had nothing I’d ordered. Unlucky timing for your package though

I had been thinking of messaging the original buyer to question him about his "brother", but decided to let let sleeping dogs lie. Still all quiet.

I assume "Simon" randomly sends out millions of such messages and thousands of the recipients will have a parcel on the way by coincidence, and a few of those will fall for it, job done.
What's different with this one is the buyer wanted me to contact the link in the message, so he either was innocent and a bit dim, or he was part of it somehow. Either way, I obviously didn't fall for it.
